I have both. Clarity is very good on both, ruggedness/reliability is very good on both, but I would only keep the Leupold if you had one favorite brand and bullet weight of ammo that you would never deviate from.

It's a pain to sight-in with a change in ammo because the clicks simply are not reliable. You will be chasing the bullet holes all over the target, wasting ammo. Once you get it close to where you want it, you will never want to touch it again.

Leupold - at least the lower-cost lines - are the ultimate in "set and forget".

Already have another one on the shelf as a backup. And I ordered a 4.5-14 for a .22. Be interesting to see how the reticle works out in that application.

Shaun, I got the same rifle, also for a screaming deal: $100 with scope.

I'm sending it off to the gunsmith for some cheap open sights. I can't take a gun seriously, if it doesn't come with open sights.

The 2-7x33 redfield that came on the Ruger American, does indeed have mushy clicks. The vx-1 is probably the same scope as the redfield revolution. I sighted it in, alongside a 2-7x35 Burris fullfield 2. Burris took 2 bullets to sight in. The inconsistent/mushy windage and elevation adjustments of the redfield took half a box of ammo! It'll stay on the ruger American. It's still a good scope.

If you are looking for lower height budget rings, I just ordered some made in USA, aluminum weaver style tactical rings on sale. The gun came with Warne vertical/permanent steel rings. They weighed 4.5 Oz, so trying to shave some weight:

How is the Burris FFII 3-9x40 Ballistic Plex in low light?

Typical worst case for me is overcast at last light, a dark deer against dark woods...

The weaver mediums are the same height as the Warne lows.

I measured them with calipers:

weaver mediums .26"

Warne lows: .25"

Probably about 98 percent as good as the most expensive scope you can possibly buy. There really isn’t any point to buying anything else unless you want to dial. There just aren’t that many options in moderate weight, moderate sized, and moderate magnification scopes anymore.

Thought the rumor was they had discontinued the ballistic plex in the ff2. The website shows it as available in droptine but doesn’t list ff2.

Pretty pathetic because the options we have in that department have a lot to be desired.

Partly why I am back to buying mainly older used scopes.

Odd, my vx1 2-7x has been fine, as has my 3-9x.
Clicks aint the most robust but they dialed in and stayed there.

The 2 -7x has been on a couple .22 rifles and now sits atop my 35 rem. Zeroed right in. Bumped around and checked zero last yr, still dead on.

Got a Freedom VX and had to do the turret tap BS.
Away it went ( once zeroed it held fine ).

The less you "know","see" and "do",the "better" everything is. Hint.

Said glass is outright fhuqking Dog Schit, none of which is "subjective". Hint...........

Personal preference is for the VX-I. I agree with others, let her see which one she likes better. I’ve never had issues with the VX-I holding POI.
