I find myself in a quandary of late regarding my 87YO father and his current[2019] political stance. He proudly voted for the current POTUS. He and his wife filmed a wine toast the minute that Biden was announced the winner, she then joyously posted this to the book of faces. He was one that couldn't see past DJT's brashness and how our country was actually advancing & prospering for the first time in years.
His wife is a flaming liberal and I'm sure she pushed and prodded him to switch over. She is extremely concerned with 'friends' perceptions etc as they live among retired academia's, Dr's and the like. Folk that a bad economy doesn't really affect.
Last week I couldn't contain myself and blurted out something along the lines of "keep voting for Biden ya bunch of dum basses" after he asked how business was.
I'm struggling with this and how I'm feeling about it.

You know what’s right and even your dad isn’t worth changing your stance over. My family knows my feelings and what I stand for. They also know that if they don’t want to hear about it they best not broach the subject in my company.
Always do what you know is right and don’t change for anyone.

It's tough.
Dad has since the very beginning been a conservative.
His father was a FDR Democrat....born in 19 and 21.
Dad said it was difficult at times.

The Democrats have buried their heads so deep in their asses that they still "believe" Biden was the better choice.
They purposely avoid reality so they can continue on their path of virtue.
Like Branch Covidians.
I am MAGA.

No reason to antagonize family over their liberal lunacy, particularly the elderly. They’ll be non-voters soon enough unless they are in Chicago.
Life Member NRA, RMEF, American Legion, MAGA. Not necessarily in that order.

Progs have different goals than Conservatives. Progs hate their own family (white people) so anything that hurts WP is good. They hate other people being prosperous, so anything that screws the little guy is good too. Progs also have tremendous hubris. They think anybody who doesn't agree with them is a stupid hick and that they are always the smartest person in the room, no matter the subject. ETA: (Sorry, I'm on a roll ) Progs are also condescending. If something bad happens to you (your kid gets molested by a LGBT, or gets hooked on drugs), it's because you are a bad person and it has nothing to do with the Woke-teaching schools, the laws, open borders or anything else that they support.

I’m glad I don’t have any immediate family that thinks that way, except the indoctrinated stepdaughter in college. I’ve said enough that it’s caused a bit of tension with the wife, but IDGAF.

Good that you made peace with your father AF.

My parents voted for Obongo his first term, after W turned their 401k into 201k. Not a chance in hell they ever consider voting for the left again.

At 87 just be thankful he's still around. My dad would've been 86 right now but he's been dead for a decade.
I didn't give a schit what his politics were.

The person you need to look at each day is you.
I get the quandary.
I think, were it me, I swallow my tongue and love my dad for him, not his politics. What he did to raise/teach me.
Character is what you do, not others. I'd want my character to be defined by my relationship with family - even if it means eating the crap sandwich of their political environment.
Were they not family that created me (mom/dad) - all this goes out the window. The rest can FOAD.

My sister is liberal.
Her husband is a Marxist.
We don't talk politics. We were never close...so I guess it's easier.
I don't think they like my Mississippi flag however!
I am MAGA.
