Drooled over many pictures of Doug Turnbull’s work, but haven’t ever bought anything or had any work done by him. Phenomenal, to say the least! Can’t wait to see pics of it when your’s is done.

Wonderful! Do they also make an action job or is it "just cosmetics"? However, that's true craftsmenship

First rate I'm sure - I'm just not a fan of CCH unless historical. I don't find the finish particularly cosmetically pleasing. That's just me tho.

Glad you're happy but, to me, it seems a little sacrilegious to let Turnbull loose on a Ruger GP 100. Is a Glock 19 next? I guess tastes vary, though.

He has to pay for his airplane gas somehow. He spends a whole lotta time in his Piper Cub traveling the country, and just having a good time. That costs money. He gets the money by employing people and selling stuff. Frankly, that's the best-looking GP-100 I've ever seen (I think they're kinda ugly).

Best looking GP100 to my eye is the half lug barrel with the flat sides on the Match Champion. Except Ruger can't resist using the flats on the barrel as billboards. That Turnbull treatment on a clean barrel Match Champion with the adjustable sights in .44 Special would be nice. Like really nice.

I'm with ya' on the "barrel as billboards." It detracts from the guns, for sure.

Looks pretty nice. Are they doing any action work, or just the color case hardening?

It’s not often you see Rugers being referred to as “purty” but that one’s pretty close! 😁 I like the contrast between the CCH and the blued surfaces.

There is no one better than Turnbull Restoration for this....artisan work by highly skilled craftsman and gunsmiths is never cheap, but worth every penny

I did pick up a factory engraved GP100 and after shooting a couple hundred rounds through it, I've come to the conclusion I'll pass, unless I see a really stupid deal on one. While it's a totally serviceable revolver, I've decided for me it falls far short in both accuracy and shooting comfort compared to my .357 Colts, Blackhawks, and especially S&W Model 27s. The Smith N frames have really spoiled me. Funny, I did think of Turnbull today - I picked up a Lipsey's Blackhawk .44 Special Flattop with 4 5/8" barrel. It seems like a good platform to get some work done on it, case harden the frame by Turnbull or someone else.

I was able to get the 44 mag Blackhawk and the 45 Bisley.. the Bisley from G/broker and the 44 Mag Blackhawk from my local gun store. They are both really nice and shoot really well.

Several others do CCH but nobody does it as good as the Turnbull crew. They are gunsmiths but also artisans at their craft. The GP100 they sell with CCH is really not a bad price considering you get a gun that will get lots of attention at the range

I guess it's nice, but for some reason I've never liked color case hardening on firearms that don't have a history of ever being finished that way. Seems sacrilegious, somehow.
For example, the pawn shop down the street has a .357 Magnum chambered Winchester Model 92 reproduction (made in South America, I think) that I would have been very interested in, except for the fact that it has a color case hardened receiver. The Model 92 doesn't have a history of ever having been offered with the receiver color case hardened, so it rubbed me the wrong way, and I left it there. Just doesn't seem right.
Now, a Model 1873 Winchester (or clone), or a Colt SAA (or clone), with color case hardened frames/receivers, that's a different matter. Those are quite appealing in my book.

Do you think it was the gun not being as mechanically accurate, or more a matter of the other guns like the Model 27s fitting your hands better? Lipseys comes up with some really great stuff. I have seen more than a few of their offerings that were very well thought out. The .44 Special Flattop is a good example. That is just a super cool gun, and one that could easily become a favorite single action for a guy. Their GP100 .44 Specials were pretty cool too.

Not knocking the GP 100 but I’m thinking just the opposite. Turnbull’s work on the GP shows just how talented he is. He turned a utilitarian Ruger into something much more.
