What is your favorite ice cream recipe ? Cantaloupe and cream didn't make it myself, but I loved it.

While the strawberries didn't 'pulverize' they instead froze hard as a rock and was like eating pebble ice cream. Wound up having to spit the strawberries out one by one so as not to risk chipping a tooth. "Patience, grasshopper"- - - - -when you encounter one of those pieces of hard-frozen fruit just tuck it "between cheek and gum" like a dip of Skoal, and let it thaw slowly. Eating home brewed ice cream isn't a sprint- - - -it's more like a leisurely stroll in the park.

Spotshooter; Good afternoon sir, I hope you're getting the weather down in Kansas that you need and besides the ice cream making wrinkles you're all well.
When we were kids I recall us having a wooden one much like SandBilly showed in the video link. but smaller and only a hand crank.
I can't recall ever making anything other than vanilla and perhaps one's recollections are better as they age, but I recall it as excellent.
When our girls were little we had a tiny ice cream maker that we'd make ice cream with them too now that I think of it. Had completely slipped my gears until I started typing the response.
They liked it, that much I recall and I don't recall it as bad either, but it might have come with flavor packets and we'd just add the cream? Sorry I can't recall that detail but they had one too.
Good luck with the process though as I do believe it was pretty good stuff. When we buy the more expensive "creamery" style ice cream up here and French Vanilla flavor it most reminds me of the flavor of what we did 50 years ago.
Thanks kindly for the fond memories both from my own childhood and our girls' as well.
All the best and good luck with the ice cream making quest.
Dwayne

Well I got one of those Cuisinart ice cream makers…
It said to mix the ingredients and then chill and then do the machine thing…
I didn’t have a hand mixer so I used a hand held food processor thing with a Whisk on it…
OOPS … it frothed / foamed the cream (Put a ton of air in it)…..
When I put it in the machine later it worked but the ice cream came out as airy or fluffy…
Aw hell…
Well try it again soon. Do this. Beat two eggs until well beaten. Add 3/4 cup of sugar. Beat until smooth. Add two cups of ice cold heavy cream and one cup of ice cold whole millk. Add the scrape from one whole vanilla bean. Beat well, add to your Cuisinart and let it go. Make sure that liner has been in the freezer for a minimum of 24 hrs before beginning. It takes a long time to freeze solid.

I've got a White Mountain 6 qt ice cream maker. White Mtn is the best as far as I'm concerned, had it for about 35 yrs now and its still in decent shape. Last time I made ice cream I put Baileys Irish cream and cinnamon in it, that was some of the best.

Success !!!
OK - what I did different was to put the milk on the stove and slowly stir / melt the sugar into the milk until it was dissolved along with the vanilla…
Then I added the heavy cream and stirred then chilled it…
Then I made the ice cream using the regular method…
NICE !!!

If you want the whiskey flavor without the antifreeze effects of the alcohol, warm up the booze in a microwave before adding it to the mix- - - - -alcohol evaporates at 180 degrees F. or so. I use Mexican vanilla extract- - - -real vanilla, not imitation, but it does not contain any alcohol.
