I'm glad to see somebody making a pickup that makes some fugking sense.

Not sure how the 1/2 ton became the size of an old 1 ton. But it sure is fugking stupid.

Makes perfect sense for the inner-city douche- bag that needs a 4 banger, 4 door POS that has a bed large enough to hold a couple grocery bags.
It'll be a big assist in the vain attempt of hanging on to the few shreds of manlyhood city folks might be pretending to still have.

I got one about a month ago. Very happy with it. It’s the non hybrid 2.0 front wheel drive. Gets 31.5 miles per gallon and has plenty of pep.

Auto Trader lists show a surprising number of "used" Maverick trucks within 50 mile of my location, in both FWD and AWD, most with less than 5K miles, prices ranging between $37K -- $50K and some stating, "Contact dealer for price".

For a CEO that was deriding Musk three years ago for complaining about “production hell”, saying how Ford knows mass production………..well, karma is a bitch with a great sense of humor.
Funny that "flat footed on the demand" stuff.

For years ,as Tacomas, Rangers, all the brands' "small trucks" have been getting larger and larger with less MPG, bigger and more expensive tires and wheels and such, I've been hearing many friends and other folks express a desire for something the size of the original Toyota Hilux, Chevy LUV, and those type trucks.

Even my 2001 Tacoma is a bit to large for bombing around town, or running to the feed store for a couple of sacks of scratch and a bale of straw. I wish I had kept the 86 2WD Toyota PU with the 22R instead of selling it to someone who needed a vehicle for $500 back in 2010. I put a new set of springs/shocks under it, front and back, and it had <80K miles on the rebuilt engine. I could sure use the 27 MPG instead of running around now at 19-20MPG.

Maybe I look into a Ford now if the base models stay available.

I think it's a great vehicle that will serve a niche well. A local Napa store now has one for running parts.

A buddy bought a street legal SXS that he runs around the countryside in checking his cattle and doing small ranch jobs. He needed a tax right off and thought it would be a good alternative to putting miles and hours on his diesel 1ton.
The Maverick debuted soon after and he wishes he’d have bought one of them instead. Better fuel mileage, he could drive it if he needs to run to town or go get parts in the city an hour north of here, plus it would have cost less than the SxS for an XL trim.

$4,000 is hardly 1:2 and if you go gasser for gasser it's a $2,000 difference.

I'd be tempted to get one for a work truck if it had a plug in hybrid model with 40 miles minimum all electric range. Steel bumpers would be necessary also.

Where in Hell would you actually FIND a Toyota at that price? None of our local dealers keep a stripper Tacoma in stock, they'll only order the fancier models with all the gewgaws and add-ons to up the price to nearly 50K nowadays. I have been looking, a new Taco ain't cheap by any means, even the new Nissan Frontiers with any stuff on them at all are close to 50K now. At this point, I'm probably going to keep my 6 y.o. Frontier and drive it to a glorious death, rather than buy another pickup at these prices.

No, it doesn’t have low range. It’s not a truck.
