.38 Super by Mackay Sagebrush

Received two boxes of his 147 grain .38 Super hardcast load...rated for 1250 fps from a 5"...was right on the money.
3" Defender................1149 fps
4.25" Commander.......1228 fps
5" Kimber...................1253 fps
6" Kimber...................1301 fps
The most ES for all the guns was 23fps

Recoil was snappy with the two alloy frame Colts... The Kimber 5" was also an alloy frame but recoil mild. From the 6" it was like shooting a cap gun..

Zero issues with feeding. Recovered cases showed no unusual pressure signs. No bulged brass from the two Colt unsupported chambers and no flattened primers. Only had time for the chrono work...the sun in the cloudless sky was right in my face and shading the target backer so I didn't waste any ammo trying to shoot groups this time out.

The other loads were my hardcast SAECO 383 with 6.0 grains of Unique.

3".......1079 fps
4.25"...1152 fps
5"........1200 fps
6"........1251 fps

Hey Thank You for doing this!

Those Commander barrel numbers (4.25") are within 9 feet, average velocity wise of my testing, overall.

That's great data to share.

Excellent test results. What bullet molds are used? I have a Colt 1911 and a RIA 1911, both 38Supers. Been shooting 135gr truncated cone. Wondering how these heavy big nose feed?

My loads were with home cast SAECO 383...they used to be available from Montana Bullet but I don't see them on their website any more... They have fed fine in all my Supers and 9mm that I have tried them in.

I believe Mac's bullets are from Western (but check with him) but most 147 TC bullets are from the same Magma machines......
