Went to a LGS to kill some time while wife and daughter getting mani/pedi.
I saw a rifle sitting in used section with a sticker for $229 with a bushnell banner 3-9x40 BDC. (I know, Throw away scope)
Picked it up a it and it wasn’t a rim fire, but a 308 win.
It looked like it had more of gun safe handling marks than field use marks. Barrel was a little dirty but crown looked new. Almost like they sighted it in, and never shot again.
The jew in me asked if they have wiggle room if we do cash.
Not much room but he said $200 out the door including back ground check. Well, better Get that paper work going.
Feeling lucky today!
If she doesn’t shoot well, I have a donor for 338 Fed.

So,the actual reason I’m here asking, are the pros and cons of this rifle.
Obviously the stock is same or worse than RAR, but the action felt better to me than the Ruger. Always hated the Ruger American gritty action feel.
Teach me about this rifle.
TIA, Dre

Good budget rifles. Not an heirloom but they shoot and they work fine.

Don't toss that scope, I have found that Bushnell puts pretty good guts in even their low end stuff.

Just like Leupold, when they upgrade the high end they pass on some old-standard goodies to the low end.

I have some pro shot copper solvent. Worked for me good few times I’ve used it.

I know it’s not heirloom, but look like A good truck on cheap

Sometimes Savage barrels need a bit more "shooting in" than most. After you get it settled down it will probably do well.

Don’t dismiss that Banner scope out of hand either. Nothing fancy, but the one on my grandson’s Howa has lasted through four seasons. Since he hasn’t dropped it out of a tree so far I suppose he’s due for an upgrade.

The old 1.4-4 that rode on my .22 for about 40 years still works, but tee shirt cleaning had taken a toll, so I replaced it with a Trophy XLT.

I hate the stock ergs, but stock fit is an individual thing and ergs that don't work for me might be perfect for you.

I have a lightly used Axis in 6.5 CM that you can have for $225 plus whatever the actual shipping cost is.

Thanks 260 guy.
Not too fond of the stock my self, I just could not pass up a deal. I mean. I spend 2 bills going to dinner and drinks with a family. This is much more fulfilling.
I have tikka SL and Kimber Hunter in 6.5 already. Thanks though.

I hear you. I bought the Axis for $225 because it was pocket money cheap, but it doesn't fit me, so it is useless to me. Besides, I have 17 other 6.5 CMs to shoot, so the Axis is leaning in a corner collecting spider webs and gathering dust.

I am no Savage guy by any means but I bought an Axis a few years back to build on and play with. After I bought it, and did some research, I found out (or was told) that the Axis is not like the other Savage rifles and that parts that fit a "standard Savage" would not work on the Axis. I sold mine to a guy at work still new in the box unfired.

I will watch this thread to see if what I was told was true or not.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

If it doesn't shoot, I'd sell it and not sink any more money into it.

If I wanted a 338Fed, I'd look for a factory one and save some money NOT doing custom work to an Savage Axis entry rifle.

I can't imagine not getting your 200 back at a minimum, should it be a shotgun.

There are those I know that refer to the Savage Axis and Axis II as SAL-vages, and/or crowbars . . . . .

Personally, I don't own one so I'll speak no ill will towards them.

I snagged a new Axis for about the same money in 22-250 a few months ago. That rifle is as accurate as any high end rifle that I've ever owned! The only thing I did to it was replace the trigger spring, and a little stone work in the sear engagement. That gun now lives in my truck. Good luck with yours!
