GREENWOOD, Ind. — While police are crediting a Bartholomew County man for shooting and killing a suspect in the Greenwood Park Mall shooting, mall policy states he should not have been carrying to begin with.

Greenwood Police Chief James Ison confirmed Sunday that the shooter was shot and killed by a man visiting the mall. The Good Samaritan, as police called him, was armed with a handgun.

“The real hero of the day was the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in the food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he began,” Ison said.

Police say the 22-year-old from Bartholomew County had a legal gun permit. However, according to mall policy, the man should not have been carrying his handgun in the mall in the first place.

Last updated in April 2020, Simon Property Group states in its code of conduct that no weapons are allowed at their shopping centers. The group is the owner of the Greenwood Park Mall.

The property group has worked with Greenwood police for several planned security technology upgrades after recent incidents at the mall including two incidents where employees were held at gunpoint in the parking lot.

Armed citizen...

The Mall would rather the good Samaritan had abided by Mall policy against concealed carry, and many more were slaughtered.

Shooters race?

It will be interesting to see if the mall management and the DA pursue charges against the guy who shot the shooter.

My guess is that it'll just silently fade away.

Yep, My dad was dying in the hospital and a nurse or candy striper caught a glimpse of my EDC and called security to escort me out of the building, they allowed me to secure it in my vehicle and return, but the staff kept a close eye on me like I was going to shoot up the place, people are Morons!...He died later that day.

I hope the people who shop at that mall tell mgn. to stick it where the sun don't shine, and take their business elsewhere...then we'll see how "woke" they are.

The lefts position is if the shooter wasn't armed then there is no need for an armed good samaritan. A totally unrealistic position as we know that all firearms aren't ever going to be confiscated. It does however trash their position that armed citizens can and do mitigate situations where a criminal is armed.

The biggest majority of shootings like this are gang related.......and I am not talking about the Norwegian gangs, or the Swedish gangs, or the Redneck gangs, but the BLACK gangs. Yet, those gangs are given a free pass by the liberals, the news media, and some on here, because they are poor young Black men who don't have a chance in life because 200 years ago some Arab slave trader sold their great-great-great-great-great-great grandpappy to some White man who made him pick cotton.

Here all they can do is ask you to leave. Many malls have the code of conduct sign somewhere on the grounds, but carry’s no weight of law unless every entrance door to the mall/ individual shops has proper signage posted. They can kick you out, but can’t prosecute.
