Had a couple over the years-great hunting rifles-easy and handy to carry-not obnoxious at all for me to shoot multiple critters in one sitting with-filled several deer tags at once and multiple hogs in one sitting with no lingering hearing issues or flinch.
Always ended up selling though-stupid reasons but short and handy should be short action-if i would have come across a tang safety UL .308 at a good deal, I might just sell most all others and be very content hunting with it.

I didn’t see if you stated you already have a 270 Win and are thinking of cutting it down to 20”. I don’t really see it as a detriment. Us older guys would be wearing light field hearing protection whenever possible before pulling the trigger so it wouldn’t matter.
On the other hand if you do not have a 270 Win and want a 20” barreled rifle, why not a SA 6.5 Creedmoor. With 20” barrel loaded with 120 gr class bullets it will easily keep up with the ballistics of a 270 Win 130 gr bullet with less recoil and muzzle blast. The 6.5 Creedmoor 120 bullet will have a greater BC and greater SD as well. You wouldn’t lose a thing except less recoil. Could say the same when comparing .277, 150 gr bullets vs .264, 140 gr bullets. It always ends up being a personal preference. With a 20” barrel there’s no real field advantage to speak of between the two.
