hikerbum,
I can appreciate your concern, partly because I've hunted in New York and know some of the problems involved.
But am wondering why you posted this on "Ask The Gunwriters," rather than "The Hunter's Campfire"..... Sorry, This is the forum I watch most often, and dont do the Hunters Campfire normally.

You must be young and not recall the last time. New York City almost went bankrupts in 1975. New York State never went bankrupt. I believe there is a Federal Law preventing States from claiming bankruptcy. California almost went insolvent. I hunt most years in New York State, left for the Navy in 1981 and never moved back permanently. Hunting with old high school buddies is one of life's most enjoyable times. The Adirondacks are beautiful. It's really a beautiful state ruined by one very large city and the buttholes that come out of there. I'm not sure which is worse, the politics and restrictive gun laws or the ticks? Oh, and this year if you hunt there you have to wear orange and don't forget that stupid, archaic back tag for the Southern Zone. Sorry gun writers.....

A SCotUS "Constitutional Carry" ruling - is the Only way to prevent this type of Democrat National Socialist injustice.
What other Constitutionally Protected, Bill of Individual Rights, right is subject to this Communist Tyranny?
It is the only solution.

Just got back from the Thousand Island's region of NY. We'd live up there if it wasn't for the gun laws. Between the St Lawrence River and the Adirondack mountains is some rough, rural and beautiful country, most is open to the public to hunt and fish in. One thing that makes absolutely no sense, a NY nonresident deer hunting license is the cheapest by far of any of the five states that I hunt in. The conservative New Yorkers I know through family and friends, none seem to be the fighting kind. Democrats and deadbeats have ruined one of the nicer places in the US of A.
Life is good live it while you can.

I read 60,000 NYers moved to FL in 2021. Best guess for this year is 100,000. Then consider how many moved to other free states.
With its natural gas NY could be among the richest, most free states in USA. But noooooo.
When the collapse comes, Congress will never vote a bailout without some major changes in how things are done.

New York Gun Owners wake up! Move out of New York. Go to a swing state like VA or PA. Nah We dont need them in VA. They should all move to TX instead. I graduated High School in Virginia in June of 1970.... We had too many of them even back then.....

Kind of tangentially related - I lived in NW PA for 40+ years and hunted S NY alot. I could like living in S NY but given the nuts that run the state - no way in hades. To me life is too short to fight with idiots and liberals. I moved away from family to E TN and within 5 years all my kids moved here. My sister moved here last summer, my nephew next summer. Between all of us we make a bunch of trips back to PA to stay connected with family. That said, if I was looking to move and needed/wanted to stay in the east, I'd look long and hard at E TN. It is by far the cheapest place I've ever lived. E TN was Union sympathetic during the War of Northern Agression and they don't automatically hate all Yankees. In fact, I've found them to be downright good people. Been here almost 15 years and it feels like home. I've had several chances for promotions to move back and have declined. I'll very likely die in TN. TN is very gun and business friendly, very conservative in general, god-fearing good people. I'm surprised at how many women carry down here. It's a really bad idea to prowl around someone's house with nefarious intent. Given half a good reason, you will not be prosecuted for shooting someone in self defense. Happens 2-3-4 times every year in/around Knoxville. Fishing is great, deer hunting not so much but there is enough deer and turkeys to keep it interesting. Plus driving to a more deer/turkey rich area is a half day drive at most. We don't need any more people in Maryville but I hear Johnson City is nice
Adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it.

Winters…TN is tempting, but kids and grandkids are here, so until they move I will stay and work hard to get the right people elected

I left the Peoples Republic of Maryland for WV as a concession to my ex, and the commuter trains and subways to D.C. made it practical despite the distance. 32 years later, she’s long gone, but I’m still here. Great place to live if you don’t need a high-paying job or don’t mind a commute.
What fresh Hell is this?

Upstate NY is a beautiful place, I wish it would finally break off from the city.

I’m an ex-upstater, (the Navy and a women took me away). When I saw what was happening there I joined the NY Rifle and Pistol Association. Not a fix all, but something.
