Just curious as to what all kinds of critters you folks have taken with your bows? For some reason this question popped in my head after missing a grouse a couple weeks ago and missing a running pheasant this weekend.

Archery season has been open since the 15th of Sept. here in NH. Shot 119lb. Doe 10/13 at 7:30AM.. Muzzle loader starts this Saturday 10/28/07. It's been really strange weather and unusually warm for us this time of year. I'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks so hopefully more brown on the ground. Ken

Mule Deer, Elk, Black Bear, Antelope, Coyotes, Grouse, Rock Chucks, Gophers, Jack and Cottontail Rabbits, Snowshoe hare, Carp, bound to be a few others but that's most of what's legal to hunt here in Idaho. Of all, stalking and taking a coyote was my best, although Mule Deer and Elk stalks are close seconds.

whitetail, mule deer, javelina, feral hogs, porcupine, coon, skunk, opossum, quail, dove, squirrels, rabbits, rattlesnake.
About anything I could have a chance at locally. Between whitetail, javelina, and feral hogs, I quit counting somewhere over 100 animals.
I've been skunked on killing an elk or a bou with my bows, but the hunts were not skunks!

Deer, squirrels. More grouse than with a shotgun. Ground hogs and a few fox. A bunch of bunnies. I have also killed about 4 different kinds of trees, mostly hard woods.

10 Whitetail deer, 1 Cottontail rabbit, 1 Groundhog. The groundhog came after many many misses. I can get in range in an open field, but they spot me when I draw, and jump the shot.

Jason, I 'cut my bowhunting teeth' on western Maryland pasture groundhogs with the recurve bow before I was 15.
Cheap solid fiberglass 50# Pearson bow and wood arrows with bodkins..:)
Learned to belly crawl & stalk and shoot laying down when necessary..
Harder to lay on one's belly and shoot,( need great low back & stomach muscles for that) ..laying on one's back is a bit easier..
Either takes practice..but can be done well to 30 yards..:)
Kneeling shots work well too, but if you have little cover, they'll spot you IF they are used to being hunted by man.
Killed a bunch of groundhogs three yards from their escape holes by anticipating their move and sending the arrow so it skewered them as they dropped down to run before they hit the dive hole..:)
Also wounded several and dug them out with the help of my big dog..THAT was interesting..:)Jim

Just setting the bow up in the kitchen, aligning broadheads and such. Drew one back, made a perfect sight picture on the outlet and instincts took over.....Mr. Brain told Mr. Finger to pull. The brother one...... hey he shot me first! Or, that was the story as I pleaded my case to my mom. Those old 20# fiberglass bows did not have a whole lot of energy. But my one coat took a hole through the arm by the bicep. Sucker missed the arm but hung in the coat. I looked like a movie extra in a spaghetti western as my brother laughed. That is when I shot between his feet and missed. Thank God for those old leather shoes. Now he was dancing like an Indian too. Lucky to have survived childhood. Dave,
"Mr. Brain told Mr. Finger to pull..."
Had a conversation with someone else about practicing form and drawing indoors where he said his 'head told him to let go' when he got on target and at full draw..
I counseled him to avoid premature ej-ARC-ulation and never let the bow shoot him..:) An archer must consciously loose the shaft when ready..
Thanks for( as Paul Harvey once said) the REST of the story..:) Glad no one was hurt.Jim

1 Bull elk, 1 Mule deer buck, 1 Blacktail buck, 3 blacktail does, 1 Black Bear.
I'm going to be in South Dakota next year chasing antelope.
In 2009 my wife and I are going to South Africa for 10 days. Looking to add a few plains game species to my list.
Hopefully I can have some late season luck this year and fill either my deer or my elk tag(s)

1 whitetail buck, 1 mulie buck, 1 cow elk, 1 female cougar plus rockchucks, jackrabbits and cottentails and grouse. Nothing huge, but the big stuff were all my first. I have been getting more into rifle hunting lately...kind of backwords from most people.

Blacttail deer, mule deer, rocky mountain elk, rooservelt elk. One coyote, a few rabbits a bunch of ground squirrels and one badger, probably a few other small critters.
If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.

About 30 or so whitetails, pheasants (on the ground), a badger, grouse while hunting elk, and once when I was sixteen, the neighborhood electrical power.
I've been on two hunts for elk but have not taken one, something I would still like to do.

Raz-
I was shooting at a squirrel on a telephone pole, foolishly with a real broadhead. I missed and cut a cable - schwacked it as a surgeon friend is fond of saying. Yup, that did it. Thankfully, it was early fall. The repair man came to the house with my arrow in his hand; there was no way out of that one.
