The "Service" model has the serrated ramp front sight. The "GI" model has a half round sight (which, I think, an army A1 should have the ramp sight too, right?). The "Service" gun has a straight mainspring housing, though it is "raised" quite a bit, and fills out probably about as much as the arched one does, which is fine by me. The "GI" gun has an arched MS housing with a lanyard loop. I think that's about it.

I have heard contradicting reports on whether or not the GI model is really Parkerized or if it is Cerakote. I have not yet seen the GI model in person, so I can't tell. If I was to place a bet, I'd say it's probably a pretty safe bet that it's Cerakote.

No, the original A1 had the half moon front sight, too, just a little larger.

A dirt cheap 1911 makes a whole lot of sense.

LOL

Here's a blued "transitional model" A1 from 1924 with the roundy sight.

A more typical 40's model. Remington Rand, with the ramp.

💡The Bantam for $600 from SDS Imports would be a lot more practical gun to own.

That’s the way I read it too. Temped to buy another just to “customize”. Would make a great spare truck gun for a cheap $$$

I’ve yet to find one of their HiPower clones to handle in a gun store. If they are as good as their 1911’s, I’ll definitely buy one.

A local pawnshop has one. I was gonna buy it, but it's in white Cerakoate, with black safety, hammer, slide stop, Star Wars trooper configuration, ugly as mud. I don't much care for that. The price was $579. It's probably still there, most of us who shop there are older.

Dang, I’d definitely have to pass on that ugly ass finish version. 🤪

Have fun with it! I've heard very little bad about them.

If my GI model is any guide, it will be reliable and well made.

I just ran 25 rounds thru it a bit ago, No problems, fun to shoot, front sight is a bit small, but I think I did well with it, just shooting cans! I have an old set of birdseye maple grips I'll dig out and put them on it I'm thinking.

Got mine the way I wanted it. In keeping with the low cost of the gun, I tried to keep things as inexpensive as possible. The gun needed nothing functionally, just things so that it suits me and fits my hand (and doesn't bite me!).

CNC machining has evened the playing field when it comes to the quality of anything made of metal. There's still a human element involved. But once a machining center is set up properly, the operator has little to do except monitor the sharpness of the cutting tools and adjust the offsets to maintain tolerances.
