Killed a couple of diamond backs in the same day a few times. First time for a diamond back and timber rattler. Diamond backs are aggressive compared to the timber rattler.

That's a nice canebrake on the bottom. We're loaded with them around here this year for some reason.
Diamondbacks are just now moving into the pine barrens near us ... have seen two in the past two years so I know there's more.
We've got a lot of vipers happening around here this year fwiw. Have had to relocate a couple of cotton mouths this summer. It's been kind of strange.
I went and got all my dogs vaccinated just incase.

I can count on one hand the number of rattlesnakes ihave seen out in the wild, and I spend a lot of time romping around and riding around outdoors. Water moccasins are a completely different story.

Great looking snakes.
I don't mind 'em at all, as long as they give me the proper heads-up.
Had one a year ago that didn't bother to buzz, just took a swipe at me.
She ded now.

That's some serious Georgia red clay there TrueGrit. You and I must be on the same parallel .... you're just west of me and above the fall line whereas I'm below the fall line in beach sand .... which is probably not too far southeast of you ... the fall line.
I'm starting to believe that the diamondbacks are moving further in toward us because of a slight year round uptick in the climate plus the habitat is being cut further down in the lowcountry after finally bouncing back from Hugo in 89 after it was all replanted by the timber industry ... those plantings are being harvested. Driving the diamondbacks toward us.
I dunno what it is though.
We're sure seeing a crap ton of vipers this year whatever it is and we've never had diamondbacks come this far in until recently. I've taken to walking lightly back around the chicken houses, especially at night. Even the copperheads have been nesting down in the pecan trees. Just can't figure-it really ... it hasn't been all that hot so far this summer.
Something else I've noticed. The rodents, even the rabbits, are back with a vengeance this year. It's like a bunny disco out in my yard every night when I hit it with the lights ... they're everywhere. I'm gonna blister them this fall.

I killed 3 Pygmy rattlers in my bushes around the house while I in Jacksonville FL. They were small but potent. Killed my next door neighbors golden retriever.

My niece’s husband was bit last night on the hand. Headed into surgery within the hour to relieve pressure in his hand and arm. Not sure what he was doing but had just finished mowing the yard.

Who's the old fugger holding the snake? Joe Biden hugging Nancy Pelosi. You choose the order.

I haven't seen the rattlesnakes this year that I normally do. Only 2 and usually it's 4 or 5. I have been seeing a lot more rabbits. I've always taken that as a sign that there aren't very many big rattlesnakes around, but you need to watch out because the snakes will come...
We have all three varieties in my neck of the woods, Diamondback, canebrake (timber rattlesnake) and pygmy rattlesnakes. All of them are more than willing to bring the fight to you, if they feel the need, but the little ones seem to always have something to prove. The big ones, I have run across, would just as soon let you walk on by. That is a nice canebrake for this area that TrueGrit is holding up.
A guy in the area got bit this summer on the hand. A Picture was going around of his arm all swollen and black. It was enough to make normal soul think twice about trying to pick up one of those buggers. They didn't have to cut him to relieve the pressure, but they did have to give him 80 vials of anti-venom. Word was he was going to be ok but still couldn't use his arm yet. Trying to pick these things up will get you bitten.
