Timber = Canebrake. Canebrake is the coastal plain version of the upland Timber. Canebrake venom is thought to be more toxic that Timber since some snakes produce a neurotoxic component to completment the myotoxic component.
Killed a couple of diamond backs in the same day a few times. First time for a diamond back and timber rattler. Diamond backs are aggressive compared to the timber rattler.
Damn I’d like to have the hide off of one of them about 32 inches long.
I’d hate to run into that son of a gun back in the woods!! ... much less the snake he’s holding!
That's why you always carry your Govt. model .45 ACP. Mighty comforting to have one of those on your hip out in the boonies. And in town.

If I’m out in the pasture, or on a tractor, I carry a commander length 1911 pretty often. In the summertime and fall, or if I’m hunting arrowheads, I carry a spare magazine loaded with the CCI snake shot. They won’t fully function the slide when you shoot them, in my gun, because I use a heavy recoil spring for shooting heavy cast bullet handloads. But I can rack the slide after each shot and they feed fine that way. No telling how many rattlesnakes I’ve killed here at the ranch with a 1911 over the years. A 250 gr WFN hard cast bullet to the head works well too. 🤠

I don't think twice about them. Sometime I hear them rattling but never see them in the tall grass. Sometime they don't rattle. Never had a problem with them. I just leave them alone. Unless I find them on the road, then I grab a few pics and move them over to the side. Some of them are big, and you need a stout stick.

I kill every one I see around the house. Out in the hills they get a pass. I used to have a great big mayonnaise jar full of rattles.
Strangest one I've personally seen was this guy, near Sonora, TX on an axis hunt. I think someone here told me it was a "mottled" rattler? We mostly have big Western's and what I call prarie rattlers that are very aggressive. I kill 'em all.....hate the darn things.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.
I wouldn't want them around the house, either. Here in Virginia, our only variety is the Canebrake/Timber. On the coastal plain where I live, they are rather rare and protected in Virginia and North Carolina.
If I had Western Diamondbacks, I might kill a few. Those are prolific breeders and far more aggressive. But Canebrakes/Timbers are pretty laid back. Hell, out in the mountains, they still catch them for handling in church services.
