I would like to see an African attempting to choke down Brussel sprouts. Their parents would be telling them that there are starving children in Afghanistan dying for Brussel sprouts. Of course they would tell their children that there are starving children in Ethiopia who would love to eat them. And so on and so forth.

Bottom line, Brussel sprouts suck and my parents lied to me.

They have been starving forever yet there is still more than before. On the other subject I had lasic surgery and never missed a stroke. Edk

I got my beating this way...

Mom said, "Eat that. There are children in Europa who are starving."

I replied, "So if I eat this, how does it help them?"

Our house, it was the Ethiopian kids.

Decades later, I had a good friend who was Ethiopian. We went out to lunch once, and I ordered an oyster po' boy. He didn't know what an oyster was, so I gave him one to try. He chewed a second and sprinted for the door, gagging.

He was real embarrassed afterwards and apologetic but stunned anyone would willingly consume something so nasty.

My Catholic great Aunt was always mailing stuff to poor people.

I guess we did too when we were young and Catholic.

We never had any fights over food.

Was China for me too.

After WWII we got a lot of letters from the part of Germany our ancestors were from. Help us, send money, etc. Didn't send any money.

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

Democrats would burn this country to the ground, if they could rule over the ashes.

Sounds like you had a nice mom.

What's that like?
At my Mom's funeral 8 yrs ago, there were more people there I had never met than ones I knew. She touched a lot of lives as an RN and Teacher.

Was China here, too.

Thought it was bullshit.

Then one day, mom cooked up that La Choy chop suey, from the can.

One look, one bite, and the China thing began ta make sense.

Yep, my mother would say, and I paraphrase, "we should be ashamed of ourselves when there are all those starving kids in Africa".
