I've bought stuff from the shop up in Walker MN and also the Hardware store over in Baldwin WI.. remember both were good shops, but then again, almost 30 years ago now....

Haven’t been there in a while but the Scheel’s in Eau Claire usually had a good selection, especially rifles. It’s nothing like the selection at the Appleton Scheel’s but that’s not on your route.

If you take 94 to hwy14 to New Ulm you will go through Owatonna, it's a couple miles North on I35 from Owatonna to Cabela's. Bass Pro has cut down the guns though. It's a little more out of the way but if you continue up I35 to Faribault take HWY 60 west at Morristown you will see signs to Ahlmans. Lots of guns and great gunsmiths. Scheels in Mankato is pretty good too. That's all I know.

There is a General Store in Osakis that is open and had a nice selection. Tikka's, CZ, and lots of others. Black guns but I didn't notice them so much. I stopped there 3 weeks ago. But that is pretty far from the OP's route. It's a long way Southwest of the Cities. I seem to remember a big gunshop West of New Ulm but it's been years since I was there.

Good to know, I quit stopping a few years ago (2018ish) when I stopped by one day and it was closed (pre-covid too), looked like it had been shuttered for good, not just a day off.
