Sure, but what I'm really interested in is how many times you creased the hood? My brother did that with Dads new pickup, just left a faint mark on the hood. What about bedsides?? AR-15....223.....62 grain BTSP.

Why get out to shoot Shot a lot of groups off of a truck mirror. Trucks that had wing windows worked best. Still do a lot of sighting in this way. Shoot a lot off of an old cable reel as well.

Turn the truck 2 o'clock from whatever you want to kill and let it rip. Use the steering wheel and mirror as a rest, if you can get the window frame involved even better. It's not a good idea to shoot a rifle with a muzzle brake off the hood. This is how I do it 90% of the time. Like my previous post, trucks with wing windows worked best.

JC, my quest was for .75 moa. Which I acheived with many loads.
2 MOA is what I think would be required of a cop to instantly immobilize a mass shooter from 180 yds using his patrol vehicle as a rest. I’ve shot hundreds of groups over a truck hood. Has no bearing on the police shooting you keep referencing. Perfect, thank you.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

I think that, back when vinyl tops were popular a lot of them were destroyed by muzzle blast.

A loaded rifle touching a vehicle will get you a big fine here. If you are shooting an animal, you lose license too.
The only loaded gun that can touch a vehicle is a handgun being used in conjunction with a carry permit.
Even leaning a loaded gun on a tire is a crime.
Wardens used to cruise a slate bank that a lot of people used to zero before season. Just looking for someone shooting over a hood or tailgate. Or even just mistakenly lay a loaded rifle down.
Magazine is the same as chamber too. Glad we don't play by the same rules you do. Nightime works great too..... Yep. Must suck where ever Dillonbuck lives. 😜 Probably 20 years ago the Fed Wildlife folks did a report on the Game Comussion, they blasted them for being more interested in enforcement than game management. They make laws against situations where you might break another law. A guy might shoot a deer hunting small game. It is illegal to use a centerfire to hunt small game. Might use small game hunting as an excuse to hunt deer after tagging out. No small game hunting during rifle deer season. And as Hastings surmised by my post. The wardens are largely chickensheets. We are allowed to spot light, but not in deer season or after 11. Prices will fine you if you are pulling in your driveway and back up to see the deer your headlights lit up. Call it spot lighting. Sure, guys could do it in fields to go around the law. But they will fine you anytime they can kinda justify it. I do know one guy who is pretty cool. One. In my 53 years.

I did shoot off the seat of a three wheeler once, 35 Whelen with 225 gr SGK at 300 yards. The group went 2.5" which made me a happy camper.

Sighted in my muzzleloader through the drivers window of my ‘84 Bronco , zero degrees outside with a stiff wind . My favorite ex brother in law was my spotter in the passenger seat . Cotton balls for ear protection and still pretty loud but it still works with those open sights after all these years

I do that. I also carry around a lawn chair and set a bag on my open tailgate. This. Not that I shoot very good groups, but 2.5 -3 inches high at 100 seems to work out pretty close to somewhere about near dead on at 300.
