Enough suspense, how much did it weigh??

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

218lbs field dressed whitetail from the TX Panhandle. 277lbs field dressed from a W TX sandhills mule deer.

SKane, I was gonna guess 275 or so. What a beast.

Funny that around here a typical, nice 4.5-5.5yr old buck will weigh 180-190 on the hoof at his heaviest point in the fall. 200+ is a big one. Drive an hour east, into farm country, and a 220-230lb buck may not even be considered a whopper.

Killed a buck that weighed 210 in Coleman county. I had a hard time getting him in the back of the truck.

Biggest is 227 pounds. Shot on the Iron Range, MN. Wasn't even close to winning the big buck contest in either place it was entered.

Second biggest is 204 dressed, shot on the Iron Range, MN

Third is 184 dressed. It was considerably bigger than the 204 physically but didn't weigh as much. All weighed at the same DNR check station.

Curious - how do they do buck contests there - weight only or what?

Here - seems to be points and inside spread. If it ties somehow - weight. Weight isn't the prevailing factor.

At the in-laws place in eastern Neb they top out right at 220 dressed give or take a pound or two. Some of the biggest have not been anything outstanding in the antler dept. Just pigs with no neck, shoulders go to their jaw!

Isn’t the world record whitetail over 500 lbs?

I won the Georgia big buck contest twice in the 90's, first time 265lb 8pt and the second a 245lb 11pt. live weights. I went at least 10 years before I killed another Georgia buck over 200lbs. I killed a 145lb dressed weight buck that won the big contest in Fellsmere Florida in the late 80's. I've always called those big bucks no-neckers.

What people didn’t know about the Corvair was that all threads were left handed in the car. That way they always shook tighter…

Didn’t Georgia Fish and Game introduce a bunch of Michigan deer into the population in an attempt to boost deer numbers back around then? Those bucks would be real whoppers in northern Maine, but phenomenal in Georgia!

I worked two Falls for IF&W taking antler measurements and tooth samples. I looked at probably 175-200 deer in that time frame and the 2 biggest I saw were 256 and 255 dressed on certified scales. During that time, I heard, but did not see, of one that dressed at 298. Dad killed a 255 and I have a buddy that shot a 274.

It always struck me that to make 200 pounds dressed, the deer has to be big and; sadly, the biggest deflator of egos is a certified scale. Anyone should be happy with a 175-199 pound dressed deer, even here in northern Maine.
