Yup, good hunting ground…But a kick in the nuts hunting and packing out of it. I leave tomorrow for 10 days of hunting one up in my yard, while I also scout up some bulls. My front yard. Back yard. Side yard. 🦫 Good luck Beaver! I have no doubt you'll score in that country. But packing out over and through all that slash is above my pay grade! Holy smokes I hope you got a chainsaw winch.

I actually have a Capstan winch - But, it rarely get’s used, unless I’m hunting with my truck near by and accessible. Otherwise it’s too heavy to pack in 1-3 miles on gated and closed, non-motorized trails. The Capstan will pull an elk out of some nasty spots. You still need someone on the elk as it’s coming up to lift, kick, and move the bull over logs and stumps. Here is one of two bulls we winched out of a hell hole the last time it was used. I found that black ‘C’ shaped culvert and turned it into elk sled. It was a pretty slick setup. 🦫

Not that I need a 300 for anything. Is like a 30-30? That’s what I have, couple more checks I should be able to afford a box of ammo. $28 bucks for ammo is nuts..

Born and raised in the real Oregon, the Oregon back when it was a logging state. Before the greenies weaponized the spotted owl controversy to shut down the economy of the entire state. Before the Californians. Oregon's a great state, you just have to live your life the best you can and ignore the BS. If possible.

Congrats Roy. Glad to see you got a good one...
I'll let the one go that I had tied up for ya in the yard...now that you won't be needing it...
If you scored a bear, I'll let that one lose also....

When did that area burn? I don't know how long ago it burned. Been quite a while. We have burns around here most every year, as you know.

It was a pretty slick setup. 🦫 I can't really see what you got going there but we used a Deer Sleigh'r like this on a bear this fall with good luck. Built like one a those flexible teflon cutting boards. You lace it up tight. I think it would have been better with a harness to pull with. https://www.bonanza.com/listings/Ne...hmNV_OBt--kzPd-svotT0OO_l-xoCdnAQAvD_BwE

Beav, sure is nice of them timber companies to cut them trees down so's ya can see the critters. The saws on the Oregon Coast were almost silent during 8 years of Clinton/Gore. When ‘W’ became prez. You could hear the buzz sounds going off all over the mountains. Since then I primarily hunt private timber land. These companies managed their tree inventories properly, IMO as a hunter. New clear cuts, to older cut ratios are good with an abundance of standing timber left close by. I try to hunt cuts that are 5-7 years old with harvestable timber surrounding each cut. The only downside is my body isn’t getting younger and the long, steep, hikes to get up into the areas are fine a couple of times. But when I’m repeating it 4-6 times in a day, freighting out an animal. It’s not as easy, like when I was in my 30-40’s. If I want a good chance to see and kill an animal. It’s the best option. I bitch like an old woman about it, but I will keep heading up, every year, until my body says it can’t do it anymore. Pic of a last load out. 🦫

These things are heavy duty, but still manageable, weight wise. Drilled out several holes for ropes and pulling. I’ve never had a drilled hole eyelet crack or open up from the strain on the rope attached pulling 650lbs up and through nasty shît. Bullet proof comes to mind. 🦫
