I cut the snap off my old dog’s leash, and carry the nylon strap with the loops. Easier on the hands than a rope. Nylon strapping is pretty cheap so one can easily be made to suit your notions.
I keep a roll-up sled and a cart cached in my favored hunting spots, so the strap is for elsewhere. The roll-up is my favorite, really eases the load.
What fresh Hell is this?

I use a harness. I can drag a big buck for a long ways.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I have a harness with a strap that I used for 20 years when I was dragging deer out. I have tried various other drags but always found the harness to be the best for me. I couldn't tell you where I got it as it was a so long ago.

The rope I use is attached to a plastic sled. Many dozens of deer have made their final journey tied to that sled. Besides being easier to drag, loading into the truck becomes a simple matter.

Chunk of rope tied through about a foot long stick. I never have to drag anything very far, so it works fine for me. It wouldn't be great for a real long drag, though.

Frequently hunt deep well over a half mile. In that case wheels are hard to beat with no snow on the ground. I like a cart for our big midwest deer in that case. If a water path is near by then most any substantial rope or strap and a canoe can work well too.

I have a 3" wide strap with a fet feet of 550 cord on the end, but if I am in more that 400 yds or so, I quarter and throw the quarters, backstraps, tenderloins and what ever other meat I can cut off into a couple of pillow cases and carry them out in my pack. I would rather spend 20-30 minutes cutting with an easy walk, than an hour on the edge of a heart attack dragging.

With snow - old toboggan with the rope loop cut in 1/2 so it's 2 long strings to each side. One person on each string - space in between.
Without snow - grab an antler - no rope.

Just a nylon strap about 1 1/4", with a loop on both ends. Pretty light, and works well.

I too, use a roll up sled made of pretty heavy duty plastic. Thing slides on anything, no snow needed. I also use a body harness, keeps both hands free.

Sure you can. Unless dictated by a goofy law, anyone that drags a deer very far is a knucklehead. I use a harness. I can drag a big buck for a long ways.

I made mine. I cut up an old blue tarp. Two feet wide and 40 inches long. I bought tarp gromets from the hardware store and run them along the sides and top about every 8i ches or so. Make sure that youdouble the edges. I roll it up so it fits into a pocket. I wrap it with paranoid. Roll the deer onto the tarp and cinch the tarp around it. Attach some of the cord to the head and drag it out. The legs don't catch on the brush and fallen limbs and it slides a whole lot better.

A combination of antlers and a jet sled.
