My rifles, fully scoped, slinged and loaded, run from just under 7 lbs to about 11. I CAN pack any of them anywhere I want to go.
I just may not want to.
The lightest of the lot isn't scoped- a '94, and that's my walk-about piece. The next lightest, MOA .260 Rem 725, kills as well as the 11 lb 30-06 M98., which is the most accurate (inch groups at 300). And yes, I have taken it back-pack hunting, but only a couple miles in. Those two caribou bulls coming out were much heavier....
I haven't weighed the RU77 Tang that I just rebarreled with a purchased take-off .270, but I will, with both my wife's stock, and mine. I expect it will go 7 1/2 to 8 lbs, or a tad more with the 3.5-10X50 I also just put on it. Rright now I'm trying to get it down to bare metal, for both a hoped for improvement in accuracy and as a practice Dyna-Tek bore coat.
it was accurate enough for huntng purposes this fall, but bare-metal cleaned it might do better, especially with once-fired hand loads.
That's always nice, no matter what the weight. Or it might not....dat's life!
