Found a pic of all four of my big bores- FA .454 Casull, Ruger Super Redhawk .480 Ruger, Ruger Vaquero Bisley .45 Colt, Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley .480 Ruger.
I'd rather be a free man in my grave, than living as a puppet or a slave....

No Model 357 Colt was marked Trooper. The Trooper was a nice service revolver, indeed, but the Model 357 was Colt's premier .357 Magnum revolver model. They came with a superior fit and finish, and a higher grade of factory tuning, vs the Trooper. And, you are correct, they give nothing at all up to the Python in those terms. The Python was the exact same grade of gun, only styled more to appeal to target shooters rather than police officers, the difference being exclusively in the barrel and grip design. I've got one, too, but it came without the correct grips, so I put on some Hogue rubberized grips with the plan of eventually locating correct grips, but whenever I locate correct grips, the price for them is astronomical, so it looks like it will keep the Hogues on.

Yuo sure those grips aren't Hogue's?

Not to pick nits, but they are all marked "357 Magnum" on the barrel and most you will see are also marked "Trooper" but they are not the same gun, which was my point...

Not the same gun, so you will never see a "Model 357" with "Trooper" on it. If it says "Trooper," it's not a "Model 357." Mechanically, pretty much the same. The difference is in degree of attention at the factory, grip style, and markings.

Yuo sure those grips aren't Hogue's? No worries, Hogue's rubbers are really easy for me to spot since I've a love/hate relationship with them on a Mountain Gun. They're the most comfortable grip for handling and shooting I've found in four go rounds, not to mention OEM. GOTTDAMN!!!!! they are FUGLY, though!

First generation 45 Colts... Who does your grip work? The short barrel was done by King’s Gun Works for Hank Williams Jr. and I got the gun from him. The long barrel I got from Hank too, but I had a local smith make them. Believe it or not, that was his first set of Colt SAA grips… Hickok45 said he used to own an S&W Model 27 that Hank Williams Jr. sold to a gun store near him. That guy must have owned and sold lots of guns over the years.

Colt factory wood just never felt right.
On a Smith though, the target wood grips feel fine.

Now, back to business. Here’s what the S&W Model 60-4 looked like: … before it became this: Both nice, but I prefer the way you had it originally. I'm a sucker for a three inch barrel. I, too, am a sucker for a 3” barrel. So, I switched it back again today: I keep switching back and forth like this, eventually the barrel threads might just get a bit loose. No problem yet, though. And, that barrel’s been off and on again a couple or three times, now.
Every day’s an adventure.
