How much damage has the 6.5 Creedmoor done to the 243 Win? Midway currently has 62 different types of ammo for the 243 but only 2 of them are showing in stock. They are currently showing 99 types of ammo for the 6.5 Creed and 38 different types are showing in stock. That’s not even close.

The 6.5 hasn’t hurt a thing, it is like taking a kid to a circus and they all want is cotton candy and could care less about the animals…

I have no need for a 6.5, so it hasn't damaged my .243 at all.

It should’ve done more….it’s better for medium game in factory setups, across the board.

I’d take a 6 Creed over both for my purposes, but doesn’t seem like many hunting rifles are offered in it anymore

It's done more damage to people's brains. I think the damage was there long before the Creedmoor...

A more fair comparison might be 6mm Creed-moor impact on .243 caliber. Primary difference is compatibility of longer heavier projectiles. If you do not wish to push the longer heavier projectiles, then the good old .243 should do well for you!

If anything I believe the 6 mm creedmoor would evaporate the 243.

If by damage you mean cutting into sales, I suspect a lot of that is from decisions taken by buyers for various outlets as well as by manufacturers. Don’t have either myself now, but after owning several .243s and a single 6CM (aside from one put together but sold before I fired it), I’m convince the 6 is more versatile in its standard configuration, so I’m sticking with it for now. No flies on the .243 for hunting at all, but the 6 is just a smidgen better overall, with no downsides for me.
Wouldn’t turn up my nose at a nifty old .243 hunting rifle by any means, as I still have lots of compatible bullets and some brass and dies, but my 6 will reside here permanently.
What fresh Hell is this?

I don't think 243 was that popular for loaded ammo sales anyway. It's really a do all chambering but most folks seem to have a 22 cal for small game and a 25/6.5 or bigger for larger game. I have a 243 but it just a tweener chambering it seems like. I've seen very little 243 ammo on shelves the last couple years.

I have a 243 and a 7-08, no need for a 6, or6.5 needmore. They're aren't but a handfull of hunters on here who should even consider a shot over 300-350 yds., me included. At those ranges they're is no real practicle differences. They are just the latest shinny object.

In the six mm ---.243 world it's all about barrel twist, most .243s are 1x10 or 1x12, But build one with a 1x8 or faster twist it will shoot with any 6 CM made, The 6 CM is what the .243 should have been from the beginning. my 2 cents worth. Rio7

How much damage has the 6.5 Creedmoor done to the 243 Win? I don't know about damage; but, in my opinion, it has all but eliminated, with few exceptions, rifle manufacturers' interest in putting new 7mm-08 rifles on the market.

The 243 Kreedmire is a vastly superior mechanical design, over the 243Win. Hint. Though in fairness,Schitsmell REALY "knows" her stuff. Hint. 367yds 120 MB ala 264 Grendel,in a Custom Carbon Queen. Hint. It's never been difficult to cypher who shoots, from The Crying Drooling Dumbfhuqks. Hint. Fhuqking LAUGHING!...............

If a typical hunter wants a 6, the 6CM doesn’t give him anything I know of, over the 243. The 6.5 CM does.
If you’re playing the LR game, with factory rifles and loads, then I bet that’s where the 6CM comes into its own.
The 6.5 does a lot very well, even eliminating LR trendiness from the equation.
To my mind, I am far more ‘fond’ of the 7-08, 260, and 243…..but I have to admit (if being honest) that the 260 & 7-08 were just previous iterations of the creedmoor trendiness……for an earlier generation. I also have to admit that if you have a 6.5 CM, you give up nothing to a 260 or 7-08, at typical hunting ranges and situations, and you get more than a 243…..whether I like it or not.
