12 miles from the river, on top of the canyon NW of Bliss. I'm no geologist but they say it's basalt out there, miles of it. The thin soil between the rocks is a nasty gumbo when it's wet. Basalt is a volcanic rock. Basalt is a dark-colored, fine-grained, igneous rock composed mainly of plagioclase and pyroxene minerals. There are many square miles of rocks out there that look like this photo. I know they're volcanic but that's all.
