But maybe my new favorite is a boot from Asolo that you can only buy at Sierra Trading Post, its the Asolo Europe Hunter if you like a 8"ish boot and are reasonable priced at $229.99 For an all leather boot thats a heck of a deal. Great ankle support, medium stiff sole and not too heavy. They are maybe my new favorite.

Or you like a taller version they also offer the Asolo Europe Hunter Extreme for $249.99

Thanks for the post. Never heard of that one from ASOLO but seems like a screaming deal if it works.

Check out Hoffman Explorers. Got a pair of 400 insulated this fall. Similar construction to Kennetrek extremes but less stiff. Only about 50 miles on them but not too shabby.

Kenetreks are notorious for heel slippage. Hope they work out for you.

In my experience Asolos have a real small toe box.

I'd heard that also so never considered them before now. I wore them around the house for a couple of weeks before making the decision to keep them and am now wearing them outside. No sign of slippage and they feel better everytime I put them on. I'm cautiously optimistic!

I've had to reject/return more boots because of this than any other reason. I'd then go with their wide size, if they offered one, this usually would correct the toe box issue, but only to find out that the rest of the boot was now too sloppy frown

I heard some comments from Lathrop where one of the sons said that some people have a foot geometry/angle that requires a wide boot even if they don't have a wide foot. It was in one of their videos or a podcast, I don't remember.

Anyway, that seems to be my situation. In general, I've had to buy wide sizes even though I don't think that my feet are technically that wide. The worst being motocross boots where I generally use an 11.5 Wide hiking/hunting boot but have had to wear size 13 for motocross boots. Seems that many motocross boots are made by Italian companies and they run narrow for me.

KEEN boots seem to have a wide enough toe box that I sometimes don't need a wide size. Same with Kennetrek. Some Hanwag and Salomon are painfully narrow though. ASICS running shoes can be OK, but I tend to get New Balance in a wide size.

Not a boot, but I have been super happy with Topo trail runners. Wide toe box, good cushion and fit. I tried Altra but the fit was too sloppy for me. I did my scouting and weighted pack training with those Topo trail runners and was very pleased.

Anyway, I went to the local Sierra store to see if they had any of the ASOLO boots. Looked like the Goodwill with hodge podge selection! I'd be willing to order some, but they all seem to be listed as Medium online.
