Oh yeah. That’s how green my buddy is and the guy behind counter should loose his job. It sounded like it was chaotic when he was at the store.

He’s going to return some of that stuff as it never got opened.
I Already sent him some links or options on what to get this weekend. Not sure he will listen to me or his other buddy who’s an actual former sniper. But hey, I’ve tried the KISS approach vs a build.

I'm surprised he walked out without having the scope mounted. It's free with purchase at Sportsman's. It still may not have been mounted correct, but at least the rings would have been right.

If he's already wanting a chassis, it sounds like you may have had a different idea of what he wanted the gun for than he did. Tikkas are light, handy, economical hunting rifles. The 700 in a chassis is heavy and can be unwieldy. Adding threading, a can or a large muzzle brake doesn't fit the theme, either.

His other buddy recommended Remington as it has so many parts for it.
He ended up with 700 ADL. In 6.5. I guess due to limited availability at the store now. Due to massive hoarding prior Dec. 8th deadline.
I have two 6.5s so I don’t care about the caliber.
After the guy at sportsman’s sold him rail and 30 mm leupold rings and viper scope with 1” tube, he was saying how it’s getting expensive. Especially now as he is looking at a new Chasi with a magazine, trigger job, threading the barrel for a muzzle break/can.

I know he’s going different direction, but I feel like guys ask for help all the time. Especially on line and don’t follow any of it or already have their mind set on something else.

Your good advice wasn't what he wanted to hear.

I think drop point is onto something.
“Long gun” can mean different things to different people.
More info is required before any meaningful experience could be helpful.

Sounds like he wanted a long range target rig and not a stalking type hunting rifle.

If that was truly the case, he wouldn't have got a 1" viper.......

Do you think he knew any better? Or maybe could have been talked into it by the salesman?

My advive would be to don't worry about it but I'm sure you won't listen because most people won't listen to advice

The one time that I gave advice was more like, “Don’t do that dumbarse!”

A buddy wanted to collect all the fancy brass Henry’s. I told him to buy old Winchesters. And he did. Doubled his money on every one.

Usually, for something someone wants to shoot, I’d just share my experience and let them decide.

Most don't really want advice they want approval, others will take advice from those whom they deem superior like doctors, lawyers and other more educated professionals.

Some may be looking for different ideas or someone who already went that route on a certain rifle or scope etc. Isn't this what a forum is about?
