I am a new owner of a fine used Redhawk in 45LC/45ACP w/moon clip, that has a 4.2" barrel. This will be my woods walking carry gun and carried sometimes while working on the farm. Please give me recommendation for a quality leather holster that will protect the pistol. Not interested in quick draw, but protection. I trust your opinions from the real world, versus advertising. Thanks!

Milt Sparks 200AW. No doubt about it, my favorite holster for big bore revolvers. I have them for my Rugers and for my S&Ws.

Mackay, what do you think of El Paso Saddlery holsters? Just wondering what your opinion of them is. I've bought almost all my leather from them mostly because I lived in El Paso for many years and their reputation has always been very good as far as I know. I remember their old storefront but I doubt they're in that location anymore.

Mackay - to piggyback and not get too far off the line with the OP - looking for a good 1911 holster, would prefer no cant - I believe. Like the Milt Sparks stuff but all have cants.

Unless I am mistaken, you can order a Milt Sparks without the cant.

I order mine w/o the cant. The ones that were gifts, such as when the wife ordered things for Christmas have had the standard 10 degree cant. But when I order a holster, I specify a 0-degree cant. You can see the back of these holsters No cant:

I use a Triple K Woodsman for my 4.2 inch Redhawk . It was made for a 4 inch N frame , but it fits the .45 Redhawk perfectly
very good protection and security for the revolver , and can be carried either strong side or crossdraw .

I have a Tanker rig from them and have had a belt holster that I have picked up that came with gun purchases. The quality is good. What I have noted is that the price is very close to Milt Sparks, so if I am going to spend that much, I would rather spend another $20-$25 bucks and have a Milt Sparks rig, since long after the price has been forgotten about I am always glad I purchased a premium type piece of gear. I don't think you can go wrong either way though.

Thanks to all of you. Some great holsters. Now to decide. Teal, I am actually glad you asked about the 1911 variant, I may get one of those as well for my 1911. Mackay, I think I recognize that ammo!! Hope to get to shoot some of your ammo this coming weekend.

The 5" Model 29 is wearing Eagle Classics. Aren't the Ropers for very large hands? Do you have larger than average hands? Beautiful grips, by the way.

You may be thinking about Jordan Troopers, TRH.
Ropers are what S&W Smooth Targets should have been.

Take a look at John Culina's grips. I own many and they are well made and right sized. A great couple to deal with as well. https://www.culinagrips.com/handgun-grips/Their "cokes" are stellar. As are their combats.

TRH, I wear a size XL glove. As others have stated the Troopers are for larger hands. I purchased a pair and in spite of having rather large hands I found them way too big to shoot the N Frame in DA mode. Shooting it in single action was fine, but most of the time I shoot guns like the M29 in DA mode. I ended up selling them to a guy with XXL hands. The Ropers fit my hand much better, and I have observed that they fit most people's hands better. That said, I picked up a set of Herretts Detective grips for a 2.5" M19 and they are absolutely perfection. I intend in the future to pick up a set of Detective grips for one of my N Frames, as I have never found a better grip anywhere. It is my understanding that Rod Herrett has retired and has sold the place. I have not spoken to him for a bit, and I don't know who the new owners are, but they do have a new website up, so that is a very good thing, as the old one was extremely dated. Here are the Herretts Detectives:
