I started this adventure back in 2009.
I used it for several seasons and was pretty happy with it.
Then Bob talked me into a 7mm Mashburn.
The Mashburn is a whole other story.
My post from back then.

So I got a wild hair and decided to rebarrel after bore scope inspections did not paint a pretty picture.
The old barrel was pretty well torched, tops of the lands were frosted 4,5 inches ahead of the chamber.
Figured i start over with a new one. Got another Rockcreek 1-10 5r really the same barrel that was on it from 2009.
Same barrel same gunsmith.Had the dies and a pretty good idea of where I wanted to be load wise.
Set up with the big Sightron for testing at 100 yards and the 3 inch bench rest adapter on the Seb Neo rest.

And

My old model 33 is still getting it done with a 10 foot space between the screens.
The specs are pretty much the same.
M700
Rock No4 1-10 5R
McMillian HTG/GP in campfire camo.
Rifle basic Trigger
PTG Bolt,PTG knob.Sako Extractor.
Once I got my 100 yard testing done I rescoped with the 8x56 Hungarian S&B.

And

Its big, but ive always wanted to try one.
Pretty happy with the big Schmidt.
709.00 from Optics Trade.
Not as heavy as you might think.

Id like to thank beretzs for help with the load on this animal.
Thanks Scotty.
Ive got more.

That’s a friggin rocket ship. That was definitely fun watching that fire breathing animal come to life.

The one question folks are going to wanna know is if it it worked as good as you thought it would? whistle

Definitely wished Bob could’ve seen the 2nd iteration of it.

The only bullet I tried is the 130g TTSX.
It's running about 3600 fps.

Dang that sounds fun - great project.

What sorta speeds were you getting with your higher BC loads?

Oops - edited to say I see your answer above.

I’ve got a 270 Wby and with the same bullet you got me beat by 130fps or so…holy moly that’s a fast rig.

I think that 7 RUM you’ve got hiding could be fun.

You should ignore Dave POC, he’s a horrible influence. Mostlygrin

You’ll be pointing your bullets so they’re pointier and any number of trick moves…. Hahahahahahha

Hahaha maybe we should have the campfire fast bullet drag races for nothing more than collective humor. I can uncork that 7RUM with some 120 ttsx and be in the running I’d think - the running of most ridiculous anyway.

I kind of thought you might be running a Mono bullet as I would think a cup and core would have a hard time staying together at those speeds.

Are you using 7 STW dies and just changing bushings and necking the brass down?

I have a set of Redding S bushing dies .
Got the right sized bushing and one stroke with some imperial sizing die wax and presto changeo 7mm STW to 270 STW. Not a big deal at all.
I can't remember now but I've got the Redding BR seater die. I'm thinking Randy ... The gunsmith got a blank sleeve and chambered it .
Works well and it's pretty simple.

Thanks Judman.

I found my old barrel targets and started new.
I knew where id get pressure and stayed 1 grain under where I saw it on the last barrel.
This was shot with the Sightron and the BR adapter.
At 100 yards pretty much the first time out.

As I worked my way through it Scotty just kept telling me to keep backing off.
I did and the farther I got off the lands the better it shot.
Never figured .125 off would work that well but the sucker will shoot...

I didnt have the time to put into it and mess around at 500 yards like I did with the spongebob 25-06.
So I mounted up the S&B and had at it.
At 100...

At 200 yards.

At 300 yards.

Once I had the second target dialed in at 100 yards I didnt touch the scope again.
One of my shorter load developments I think.
More to come.

I’d JB Weld the bolt for you so you wouldn’t ever have to worry about it falling off and sharpie an extractor on the side of it for pictures.

It’s what friends do for other friends.

I had a bigger bolt knob installed .
Got the phone call from Randy.
As I was machining the old knob off the whole thing came off.
Sent it out and got it welded on.
Be a neat trick to get it to pop off now.
Actually a pretty good test.
If you machine on a new bigger bolt knob and it survives the machining process.
Pretty sure you don't have to worrie......

Okay, if you say so Dave. grin

I’m just the knuckle dragging guy here.

All kidding aside, it’s a cool cat and like Jud mentioned, it’s tailor made for catching the big ones for a quick shot no matter where they’re standing.

like it much.i went 270-300 win mag many years ago.my favorite rifle for several game animals shooting 130 and 140 grainers, doesnt shoot 3600fps.but with my loads shoots right close to 3500 fps.also must of gotten real lucky with the broughton barrel tim north supplied.with the 130 grain mrx from years back when i let it cool between shots.it shot 3 shot groups when in the best conditions from 0.012 best ever to 0.150.yes a hummer barrel for sure.speed does indeed kill in certain circumstances.still shoots 1/4 moa with both barnes and noslers.great hunting and shooting to all.
