I'd love to open up a tank of CO in my wife's shop to get rid of mice. Is it available to buy? Where? Other than a good airing out, what would be the drawbacks?

Manifold.

The drawbacks are manifold.

I'd thought about that but exhaust stinks. She wouldn't let me do that. Pure CO is odorless.

Cheaper...

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

There are many simple, cheap and effective traps for multiple mice. Much better than gassing a whole shop with carbon monoxide.

Chicken Ala king mre glob in the bottom of a 3 ft trash can next to a wall or put a 2x4 ramp up to it.

Get PFC Domkowski who enjoyed stomping em to death the next 3 mornings in a row to do his jolly green giant I love Lucy grape vat with combat boots on thing.

Hilarious.

Or a simple 64 Oz coke cut the neck open a little leave about 4 inches in bottom.
Next to a wall

Drowning pool.

Or one of the simple roller bar 5 gal bucket drowning pool traps with peanut butter out in the middle of the bar.

Jeez man.....
You ain't gotta go all concentration camp hit the shower routine on em....

I stand corrected, ours are CO2 at work. But they do warn us that you’re likely to smother if you’re in the cabinet when they go off so it might work.

You are better off with some sort of trap. I use a 5 gallon bucket a 1/4 full with window washer fluid and Al can smeared with peanut butter on a dowl rod at the top. If you poison them, they are going to die in places you can't get to them easily and stink the place up.

CO is extremely dangerous. I would rather pour a gallon of gasoline in the floor and start sweeping with a cigarette in my mouth.

If you seal up all the air leaks, a tank of CO2 will do the same thing. It's heavier than air, and enough of it will create a layer of gas several feet deep that will smother anything that needs oxygen to live- - - -including people.
