Good question, Randy. I don't know any old Mounties to ask! Joe Martin is old, but he's not a Mountie.

Personally, I would've stayed in the sack with Angie Dickinson and sent some schmuck out to chase around in the woods. "Here's $20, let me know when you find him. Now get outta here!"

Were Mounties issued long arms? I surmise they were issued revolvers.

Yea, I don't know either. I enjoyed that movie as well, but I think it took a lot of historical artistic liberties.

Mounties at one time were issued winchester 1876 carbines in 45-75 caliber, rainbow trajectory at best.

Don't expect accuracy in movies. All they are interested in is saving money and projecting their desired image. Most of them don't even know which end the bullet comes out of. And if a Savage 99 was cheaper to rent than a Winchester or a Krag or an Enfield or a Ross (Canadian made military rifle). The Ross would have been the most likely Mountie firearm since it was made in Canada. My wife has a sporterized Ross that belonged to her grandfather. Anyone want to see a pic?

I think it was Jeff that brought a couple Ross rifles to Noxen last year. One is on my "someday" list.

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

Boltman who used to be on here was a Ross expert, He supplied info for the bluebook. I think he was also the owner of one of the "PERRIS SPECIAL" savages.

Funny you should mention that, if you watch the very last scene in the movie Mr. Johnson is carrying a long barreled full magazine Winchester with a crescent butt plate over the mountain, which I presume he traded his Savage 30-30 F for with the mad trapper who got his face blown off by Lee Marvin's 30-40 Krag Carbine.

I've always wanted to shoot a 280 Ross.

Checked that off the bucket list when I ran over about 10 guys at Noxen when Jeff said who wants to shoot my 280 Ross?
