Wabi, I "retired" as a CW2. Saluting was not high on my priority list, but I did it when required.

One of my finest moments "over there" was the day I nearly gave the Troop CO a heart attack. I did that by refusing an order from a 1 star general and saying "Phuoc You, Sir." Never heard a word about it afterwards.

Aviators and those using artillery speak 'niner', civilians don't get it. Spec Ops talks that way too.

I salute them all.

Dan, were you trained to say, "Niner", not, 'nine'?

Yes, but I don’t speak aviator when conversing with groundhogs.

A very belated "Welcome home and thanks".

Half a century, Dan. And we still relive it daily. It doesn't take much to flood my mind with images, and even smells. Hell, I'm having them as I type this.

(I saw the cake, Frogman. Happy Birthday!)

Didn't get spit on but there sure wasn't any home coming type stuff. Went in in 69 and got out in early 72.
