12 bucks a 20 pounder or 60 bucks for a 100 pounder at an amish shop. I only heat the garage occasionally, so i get by with 2-3 hundred pounders.
I guess that is about 3.00/gallon or so. No your looking at7 bucks a gallon Propane is 4.24 pounds per gallon (depending on temperature @ 70F?). 20 pounds divided by 4.24 = 4.7 gallons. 12 bucks divided by 4.7 = 2.55 a gallon. If the give you a bit less, like about 4 gallons, it is 3 bucks a gallon. Even with a short fill it is not 7 a gallon.

I just got quote for a first fill of the 1000 gallon tank in our new house in NH for $2.49 / gallon - ugh that first one will hurt but sounds like it could be worse.

Propane has 91,600 BTU per gallon, oil has 140,000. So propane cost normalize to oil is a factor of 1.53. So 1.53x2.49 = 3.80. I think oil is over 5 bucks here, so propane is cheaper per BTU at these rates. Last I heard, oil was 5.29, but it changes.

$1.94 per gallon delivered Friday. It's still the cheapest heat I can buy.

all this makes my outdoor wood boiler seem cheap I bought about 14 years ago. don't even buy wood got it all on the place. all I got to do is cut. You have the setup that I'd like to have. Good for you, screw the utilities co's

I only use propane for grilling and for the few times we use the camper.. 90+% of the cost of heat for this place is wood - and I use 4.5-5.0 full cords of wood/year at $150/full cord.. Thank God for wood stoves..
