Gun Parts Co. used to sell a tall front sight blade that could be file-fitted to zero the Mausers with a 300 yard battle sight. I've always simply TIG welded a little material onto a standard front sight blade and filed it to whatever minimum range zero I wanted.

I remember seeing racks full of pristine 1909s at Montgomery Wards in 1961 or so. $35.00 IIRC. I was in 9th grade and $35 was a lot of money for a teenager back then.

Sears also sold milsurps back in the day. Always had the hots for an Enfield jungle carbine, never could afford one.

Just drop the front sight down flush with the bottom of the rear notch. That's your hundred yard zero. I won a match with my Swede with that trick. My (Swedish) neighbor learned it in their army.
