Can’t you just do a FaceTime call and look at the scope thataway?

If I was ever that concerned on a deal I’d walk away with no worries.

Hank,
I know that you are one of the good guys here. If in doubt, back out!

On any item over $100, whether I’m selling or buying, I immediately take the conversation to text, then phone call if the texting seems ok.

I’ve done somewhere between 50-100 transactions here over the past 15 years. Every one completed went great. If an issue did pop up (happened a couple times, honest mistakes), the seller bent over backwards to make it right, and then some.

I recently sold a rifle to a member here, and for an unforeseen reason (my FFL bailed on me due to holiday season), I shipped the rifle a week later than promised. I communicated with the seller every day or two as I scrambled to find a solution, and threw in 50 Partitions in the proper caliber for the rifle as compensation for the delay.

Only once have I smelled a possible scam, and the “seller” kept making excuses why he couldn’t text or call. After the third request for a phone call was denied, I dropped the conversation.

If ANYTHING doesn’t seem right, run.

No need to be sorry Hank. Walk away.

I put a WTB ad out and the guy was a scammer.

Man I’m about to the point of only doing business with well known traders on this site.

bro-you are not wrong-this is a scam, unless it is the same guy Schaff...the guy selling on the other site-if they refuse a phone call/conversation then you you know its a scam.

I have put several WTB ads in the last 18 months and every one that I asked to to speak with either got hostile or made excuses "it is too dangerous I am on the road cant talk" blah blah blah...

I'd be happy to vouch for Hank! VERY willing to speak over the phone, or through PM. I know this isn't the intent of the post, but it seems like it's trying to make that turn. Boatboy is good to go

Sometimes a person reselling will reuse pics from the original ad without knowing its a scammer behavior. Not saying thats whats happening here in this thread. On the other side I am always puzzled that most buyers on any site don't want to do a voice call much less a facetime. Just alot of texting, even for big items.

I have been scammed exactly two times. Once here and once on MeWe. Both times something seemed "off" and my gut told me not to do it. Ever since then a simple phone call has either confirmed or eliminated my fears and I haven't had a bad deal in quite a while.

That's a possibility but I'd want some current photos with a note at least with today's date included.

I'd probably pass. So many scammers anymore I only buy from pretty well known members

Good points!
It's possible, but I always note in an ad when I'm cross-listing an item on multiple forums, specifically to avoid this scenario and the appearance of a scam.

100%. I’ve met Hank in person. Great guy.

BUT…if anyone has an issue with him, let me know and I’ll go to his place and punish him by paying him not one penny over MSRP for one of his Fieldcraft’s. 😜

After hearing about some of the people who respond to WTB ads, you better be careful, you might get more than you bargained for!
