Anyone handled one? Not in left hand yet. Might solve my wants without spending custom money.

I doubt it! I'm not against Savage, but it is a sub $500 rifle. To me it is probably going to feel like a sub $500 rifle.

I got an email a couple days ago from Savage about the release of he 334. Yeah, sub $500 gun, but it looks better than a Savage Axis. I’d like to see the rifle in more than 3 chambering though.

What kind of stuck out to me from the pictures is that is one of the least ergonomic looking safeies I have ever seen... right up there with the Arisaka twisties.

It is less ugly than the Axis.

At this point and time, and not having seen or handled one, that's about the only thing I'd have say about it. Time will tell. Bottom feeders will undoubtedly folk to it, and every banquet/dinner with the distance I can swing a dead cat will have them on their raffles.

If Savage is the answer, the question is most often wrong.

Because of its forend shape and the big pic rail, it actually reminds me a lot of newer Ruger 77 Hunters.

Are you kidding? Just released at SHOT. Pretty sure unless you're a dealer that made it to SHOT, not many have handle it and orders haven't even been placed.....

FWIW, guys at the LGS got a handful of calls today on the new Salvage and Smith's 5.7 pistol - again just released.🤔

I'd like to see the action out of the stock. They're describing a real recoil lug... which would make it the only sub-$500 rifle not using the mortis (at least when Howa 1500s aren't on sale)?

had to Google that one up. I didn't think it looked too bad. I would like to know what the twist rate is in a 243 could be interested..
would have to note I looked at the Walnut version.
went back and looked again 9 and 1/4 twists same as all the old Remington's for years.... personally prefer a one and eight but it would be doable for my use..
downsides for me would probably be the 20 inch barrel and the three round magazine.. if that was also totally depend on what I was using it for at the time..

The people that flock to the 334 could care less about the twist rate. Bank on it.

Looks like a Savage version of Tikka. Sixty degree lift with three lug bolt? Check. Three round single stack plastic magazine? Check. Identical bolt release? Check. Similar looking bolt shroud? Check. Bolt handle left in the white? Yeah, that too.

Would need to see one in person to make a final judgment, but that is what it looks like from here.

I might buy a Turkish Tikka just to see. They are going to sell for less than three and half bills for the synthetic version. It will probably shoot pretty well. Buy a .308 and carry it around in the truck.

Yeah, I found out it was made in Turkey from a YouTube video. I have a Turkish made 28 gauge that does what I ask if it, but I’ve never had a stock that the finish rubbed off on it, until this shotgun.

I've never understood hating on Savage in favor of Tikka. If you care about out of the box accuracy and don't mind a bunch of plastic...

Tikkas are also cheap rifles that shoot well, except they aren’t so cheap now. They’re well executed, but they’re pretty soulless and designed for quick and cheap mass production.

Looking at the specs on the Savage website, they haven't published a weight. I am wondering why.

I'm not sure I'd read too much into the omission, re: that they're trying to avoid disclosing the weight. A lot of manufacturer websites are surprisingly bad at relaying what you'd think is important info or just presenting poorly. (It always bugs me that Federal lets you sort by "caliber" but then lists cartridges under the caliber heading.)

Turkey was always known for shotguns, then pistols. Now they are making rifles. When I was passing through Incirlik Air Base I talked to a Turk that took guys wild boar hunting. Law didn't allow rifles. they hunted with shotgun slugs. Some big damn Russian boars.

Ah, they have it listed under the specs for the Creed, but not the 243 or 308. That's not good.

If anyone is interested, this rifle is made by ATA Arms in Turkey and has been out in other countries for 4-5 years now. YouTube has quite a few reviews on it from shooters in Australia and New Zealand.

Also, according to their website it looks like the .308 has a 1:11 twist, .243 1:10 twist, and 6.5 CM 1:8 twist.

I see Savage now has the twist rates listed for their version and they are a hair faster.

1:10 .308, 1:9.25 for .243. 6.5 CM is the same. Not to sure I would want a 20” barrel that’s not threaded at least.

Well, I’d consider one in the walnut stick in .243 just for a range gun. Not to keen on a 20” barrel that’s not threaded though.

Cheap rifles have their place, but that place ain’t here. When I hear the words, “for the money”, it’s like when someone recommends a restaurant by saying, “They give you a LOT of food!”, a warning bell.

A “Turkish Tikka”- I like that description.

I purchased a Sarsilmaz Sar 9, which was my first experience with a Turkish firearm. The Sar 9 has far exceeded my reliability and accuracy expectations. After my horrible experience with a new Smith and Wesson MP 2 10mm, the Sar 9 has reaffirmed that a properly manufactured firearm can perform as advertised right out of the box. So, the first walnut Turkish Tikka in a 6.5 that I can find, I’ll be a buyer at a $500.00 price point. I am willing to wager that it will make a good reliable range rifle for my grandkids and me.

Tikkas are two lug, 70 degree.

The 334 has the oddest, most awkward looking safety I've seen on a modern rifle.

I’ve seen advertised on a website for the synthetic stock version for $296. Since they have none in stock who knows the real price. I’d be willing to waste $400-$425 for a walnuts version .243 one if I can find it.

Apparently the 334 is a ATA Arms Turqua variant. For an entry level rifle, the Turqua has accumulated a lot of positive reviews on the web…

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting on a left hand version of this. Savage is good about making LH rifles but so is Weatherby. That doesn't necessarily translate to foreign made, rebadged rifles (Vanguard).

I'm not sure how the nearly 10 lb Bergara HMR fits into this conversation. It may be available left handed but is a different rifle with a different purpose at a much different price point.

Rifles actually look better to me than Savages. Looks like you can get some with sights too.

The bugaboo for me with all these here-today, gone-tomorrow rifles is magazines. Will they have spares for sale right off, someday, never? What happens when the deal between Savage and ATA is over? Pick a discontinued rifle, any discontinued rifle, then do a search for magazines. If they have them right off, no big deal. Buy some spares (try not to lose them) and soldier on.

These are already being imported by Four Peaks. Cheaper Than Dirt shows them as in stock. They're selling them for $600 if someone can't wait for the Stevens badged version.

I bought 2 - ATA Turqua Generation2 versions in 243 and 6.5 Creedmoor.
I can say now after breaking them in and trying multiple brands and grains of bullets these things are great shooters.
Mine are the walnut version with iron Fibre optic sights.
3 lug bolt butter smooth push feed bolt, 60' lift, fabulous fibre sights. 3 position safety.
Even comes with 2 mags for gosh sakes. 3 & 5 round.
I got them in sale here in Canada for $500 each.
They are the best shooters and quality for the money I ever paid.
I've never had rifles in 40 years that shoot sub-moa with different brands and weights before.
They are a steal. When Savage brings them out buy them.
My camp buddy bought the 308 and its the same.
