There’s a link in that article to another one about a 695lb killed last year in Haywood Co, NC. That’s in the mountains. Now that IS a big dang bear for the Appalachains. Young man 21 yo. But he used a much bigger cartridge. .35 Remington in a Marlin. Oh, and his buddy got a 450 before this hunt.

And we get excited in our area when we see bear sign. Was picking up some cherry wood from a scrap tree I cut last year clearing a shooting lane in front of my wife’s favorite stand. Had just come up a hill from a salt block that had what looked like tooth marks on a corner. And right there in front of the Foreman was some steaming scat full of blackberry seed. She’s cautiously stoked.

I live in the most southeastern part of VA just a stone's throw from the NC line. The bear guys kill 600 lb + bears quite regularly near the Great Dismal Swamp and the outlying crop counties.

Everyone knows you have to have a high bc bullet and carbon fiber to kill a bear. Don't forget the 5 pound scope, and it has to be 30 power.

A 30-30 you’re sheiting me, I thought it was obsolete a hundred years ago. 😉

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

What a toad bear. I miss NC sometimes.
