my brother; you're wearing them wrong side out.

In wintertime, fur side out, summer time fur side in.

Just the opposite of a jackrabbit-skin jock-strap.

Not a fan of da natives.

I've spent time up there in Alaska in the remote villages.

In South Dakota where there's a large Injun population.

In a Northern California reservation, Covelo to be specific.

They despise whitey.
It's a burning hot hatred that goes back hundreds of years.

They are portrayed as great keepers of wildlife and nature by the woke left.
When in fact they always raped as many resources as they can.

Their reservations are filthy, crime ridden s. Hit holes that they have created themselves.

Quite possibly the most racist people on Earth.

Ever been to Browning Montana?

I never could figure out how Indians were supposed to be the great harmonious protectors of nature, when for thousands of years, the plains dwellers would run entire herds of bison off fùcking cliffs.

Somehow that was more harmonious with nature than shooting them I guess.

Recently heard a story about an Indian who speared many dozens of spawning walleye from my local lake. He tossed them into the bed of his truck and drove around showing off his "catch" until they spoiled. Meanwhile, nearly every store in the area has a donation jar on the counter, asking for funds to stock walleye back into the lake.

Buncha horseschìt.

Few yrs back state fish and game issued emergency order shutting the king fishery down on the Yukon River. Low returns, well the local natives said not me and went fishing said it was their subsistence right to do it. Of course they were fined etc by the troopers. Unfortunately they don’t have the capacity to think about tomorrow or the future. I grew up on the Rez and the mentality is always for today not tomorrow. It’s taking me years to shed that mentality. Like you I have no idea why Indians are held as the great keepers of the earth? Classic example on the kuskowin river the locals shot a ph ucking whale. Not talking one or two but the whole ph ucking village. Not once did someone say hey guys this isn’t a good idea. The best part nothing happened to any of them, if that were you and me ph uck we be sitting in a federal prison right now. But Hey Native Pride cuzzin!

Ridiculous to paint all Natives with the same brush. Been all over BC, and every band is different in regard of how they view "whitey." Been in some areas that Natives will welcome you into their home, and some that the RCMP fear to tread.

I remember one night out with a friend and there was a native, running his mouth, with a native pride hat on. My friend asked him "What are you proud about?" He didn't get an answer.

Serious question. I think I know the answer.

A positive Reservation story…..

1980 I was subletting a room in Las Cruces waiting to leave for Africa and living well on day labor. Back then I lived on a big greasy breakfast and way too much coffee served at local eateries, I would read the newspaper cover to cover. Thats how I learned of the July 4th ceremonials at Mescalero, 100 miles away.

The beauty of day labor is ya can not show up for work anytime so I drove on over. The nature of this thing is it’s a coming of age ceremony for their daughters, sorta like an Apache quinceanera.

It’s expensive for the families to put on, so the Tribal Government will sponsor a number of families at once at a big celebration around July 4th when most people ain’t working. It’s at the fairgrounds, teepees, brush arbors outside the fairgrounds, religious ceremonies inside, lots of vendors, big party, big crowd, family gatherings all over.

They needed people to direct traffic so I signed up, it paid well, cash at the end of each day. I freely admit the absurdity of me telling people where to go on their own rez but there it was 🙂

Good feelings prevailed, lunch and supper were free too, by tradition they feed all the visitors. I’ve done it a few times since and its always been the same. They would see me standing out there all day long, red vest, flag in hand and some folks would hand me cold sodas and fry bread tacos out the pickup window as they passed by (I’d politely decline the occasion proffered cold beers).

They also paid a dollar fer every bag of trash you picked up and I’d give my full bags to the kids to go get their dollars.

In the course of the day you’d get to joking around with the families in camps adjacent to where I you were, one year I was giving them rides on my motorcycle. That year I had the rare privilege of sitting around sharing tiswin with some old folks who remembered exile in Oklahoma.

Pretty durned cool 😎

It weren’t all sweetness and light, one time I was directing traffic and this maybe 18 year old, long hair, bandanna, mirror shades, bone choker collar, heavy metal t-shirt guy pulls up, stares at me hostile, says one word “later” and drives on.

Where I was at later on was right by this teepee and the grandma in the place by and by sends a kid out with a plate of food for me, a little kid commenced to wave my flag around for a bit, laughing.

A few tipis down the road, maybe 70 yards, was prob’ly a guy selling weed or whatever on account of every so often small groups of teenagers would cross the road looking around, go inside, then emerge a short time later looking around and go back where they came from.

One group stops short, looks at me, and start talking to each other, prob’ly about me, and head out. So I’m expecting mirror shades guy.

A short while later mirror shades guy does show up with a buddy, prob’ly to thump the White guy, but he’s in a fix. Turns out it was most likely his own grandma that had been feeding me. So he stands there, arms folded, leaning against a car and staring at me from behind them shades.

I’m standing in the road and about ten more of his buddies show up and stand around me in a big circle. One of them calls out mirror shades guy’s name. But like I said he was in a fix. Meanwhile I was running my tongue inside my mouth feeling all my teeth for one last time. I didn’t say nothin’, I figured if I could get one of them (not that that was likely to happen) the best they could hope for was a draw.

Just then a tough older longhair in an actual low rider drives up, motions to shades guy to come over, says a quiet word to him, they all walk off. Then Low Rider guy pulls up to me and says “which way should I go?”, I looked at him and said “Sir, you can go any way you want” grin

The moral of that story? I was surrounded by hostile Apaches and lived to tell the tale 🙂

Anyhoo…. ain’t been back to that event in maybe fifteen years, last time I did the traffic thing about thirty. Fifteen years back was in company with my Ex. In one of them small world events I taught the kids of a guy from there here in San Antonio, stopped in to see him while we were out there.

Go to any Indian reservation in the US and look how they treat their animals ( horses, dogs, cattle) women and children. You would be very appalled and disgusted.

Got back from Africa in ‘79. Took a job at the Forestry School in Syracuse NY for a year while I applied to Grad School. Was gonna get a degree in Agriculture and take it back overseas. I applied to schools up and down the Plains States, North Dakota to Texas.

At that time I was driving a big ol’ Dodge 4wd pickup with a cap on the bed, bought off my uncle, rustbucket but it ran. I took time off late January because I was gonna visit all these schools in person.

1980 was a rough winter in the Dakotas, so the churches in Syracuse were having a drive to collect blankets and winter clothing. I called up the number, told them I was headed out that way with a truck, they gave me a number on the Onondaga Reservation just outside of town.

At that time Dennis Banks (ya I know, terrorist, A$$holes In Moccassins and alla that) was wanted on charges and had been granted refuge on the Onondaga rez, turns out it was his people doing this. I hadn’t been looking to meet famous Indians, especially ones where the FBI was all over, but it woulda been sorta lame on my part to withdraw the offer, so I got invited over to where he was staying with his family for dinner. I got the impression they was happy to meet someone who weren’t political.

So I ended up delivering a bunch of blankets and jackets to Pine Ridge. This was February and there was a blizzard in Colorado where I was headed next, Pine Ridge was a tense place so the Pine Ridge people suggested I go stay at a camp they had in the Black Hills.

Ya I know, AIM again. I got no dog in that fight, all I found was a collection of people at that camp trying to live right, stay clean and out of trouble. I ended up staying four days. Actually I walked in, driving in down a forest road I encountered a sheet of ice and slid sideways off a cliff, my truck hanging up teetering on the edge, right front wheel dangling off the edge, left rear wheel up off of the ground.

The sense I got of it was the people at the camp were happy for the company and a friendly face. Not a whole lot to do out there.

As luck would have it the retired Air Force guy who ran the nearest gas station/store, ten miles out, was married to an Eskimo (Innuit?) woman, they lived there with their two big longhair sons. Lots of people around there didn’t care fer Indians, but these people were sympathetic, not Liberal by any stretch, just sympathetic.

So the next day I walked out, paid one of their customers to drive out with a come-along to winch my truck back off of the edge. Made a grocery run with some of the camp people, then left my truck at the gas station and walked back in (flat amazes me now how easily I could cover distance back then).

Two sweats while I was there. February, snow, Black Hills, full moon reflected on the frozen pond right out front, saw-whet owl calling. Perfect, one of them moments in life.

On the wall of the cabin was a newspaper clipping about a guy named Frank Fools Crow. Turns out one of the young men at the camp was related and heading back there, requested a ride back on my way out. This guy, maybe twenty one, already had four pairs of sun dance scars on his chest, said his mom was after him to get them removed. We walked out before dawn taking turns hoisting his heavy sea bag, I recall it was dark because I was explaining to him why Venus, then bright in the morning sky, never got far from the sun.

We stopped in to visit Fools Crow, brung him some tobacco. Again, say what you want about Fools Crow, that guy was the real deal.

Anyhow, I ended up going to grad school in Texas.

About twenty years after I was in South Dakota and going on twenty years ago (??) an army sergeant from the Cheyenne River rez in SD went missing on West Point. Last seen leaving a friends house on base late never made it back to his own housing.

This guy was a stand-up guy, on Cheyenne River had perfect attendance in high school, spotless Army record. After a piss poor “search” on West Point the Army pronounced him AWOL and started giving his family back home a hard time, telling them they could be guilty of aiding and abetting.

My sister and her husband are lifelong civilian employees of West Point (he had been an MP there), one of the local Indians was a friend of my sister, he asks her husband if they could go look on West Point. This was some weeks after the disappearance. They took the logical route through the woods between housing and found the body right off. The location and injuries suggested he had stepped off a drop off in that steep terrain in the dark and died of his injuries.

This was of course a huge tragedy for his family and traumatic for everyone involved. In the aftermath the Cheyenne River people stayed with my sister and invited her family up the following summer.

There was gonna be a thing called a giveaway feast so I went over to Mexico and bought a bunch of good blankets, drove up with my Ex and met my sister and her family up there.

While up there I mentioned I had been in the Black Hills in that camp maybe twenty years before, a woman asked me who I had seen there. The longhair traditionalist running the sweats in the camp, a young man in his twenties, had been crazy but in a good way. Funny, big heart.

I read a book of Mongol poetry once that said there were two kinds of people; those who make you stronger and those who make you weaker. That guy had been in the former category.

I described him and mentioned his name. Turns out I was talking to his aunt who had raised him, same house as that soldier. Good people. Tragically, in a fit of daring for which he was known, that crazy but in a good way guy had dove off a bridge in California into a swift-moving river and not survived the experience.

So me, a stranger out of the blue, was able to bring them a good word about this other family member they mourned.

A few years after that a young woman from that family and her husband came down to stay with us so as to escape violence up there. He liked it well enough, found a job, the woman however wasn’t happy, got homesick and after I think after a month or two they went back home.

In the end it is what it is. Rarely do Indians “go forth” and succeed.
In the last 30 years or so since I have peripherally taken note there have been quite a few Indian youth in Montana that excelled in football, track, wrestling, a lot of sports and some in academics as well who have earned free rides at terrific colleges.
I can’t remember reading or hearing of any who were not back on the Rez within a matter of months.
I’m sure it’s the same for Indian youth in other states as well. It’s a shame.

Got in a bunch of trouble in school over the Buffalo jumps.

The Indian adoring teacher mentioned them, or driving them into a swamp.
I raised my hand and commented on how they managed to get just the right
amount they could eat and dry. Then in a Smart-ass mocking voice,
"Cause, you know how they wasted nothing. And used everything."

Finding the office wasn't hard. Already knew they way.😁

PS. My Longest on This Contentment Ancestor came here from somewhere,
before it was America. Exactly the same as the Indians.

To my mind, that qualifies me and mine as Native American.

Except maybe for those with the sense to move their kids far away.

The Mescalero guy I know had his three kids pass through my high school, lives locally. My favorite story about that guy is when a punk gang member down his street was threatening his son. The Mescalero guy climbed through that sleeping punk’s window at night, laid a knife against that guy’s throat and told him if he EVER f_cked with his son again….

‘Nother thing was when his kids were in Elementary he blew up when they were gonna put them in bilingual Spanish classes, JFC we ain’t Mexicans he said. Funny to hear him tell it.

He kept turkeys for their feathers and would hang turkey feet on his fence like witchcraft to scare the local punks, it worked 🙂

He gave us a peyote cactus in a pot one time. Didn’t want to refuse a gift but WTF was I gonna do with that? We put it out on the back porch and left it there. A year later it looked horrible so I gave it back. He told me that’s what they we’re supposed to look like grin

Anyhow that guy’s three kids excelled, took all AP classes in high school, one of his daughters advanced to the International level in Science contests and his son is career Army, an Engineer.

It is true that that Mescalero guy didn’t grow up on the rez per se, his parents moved off, tho his daughter married out there and he goes back regular.

I got my dates wrong earlier, 1980 was when I went to Africa, ‘83 when I got back, February of ‘84 when I dropped off blankets on Pine Ridge, then about twenty years later Cheyenne River.

Cheyenne River must have been early August because Sturgis was just getting started and I would be having to get back home for the start of the school year.

So coming back we drove through Pine Ridge. Pine Ridge seemed pretty quiet in February of ‘84, about 20 years later in August it weren’t. A LOT more people, whole neighborhoods of houses where I didn’t recall any before.

Back in ‘84 I had driven out with a local to Wounded Knee, and we had each stood in the lee of a brick gatepost to the small chapel yard and mass grave to get out of the wind while we talked. It was quiet, no one around.

Twenty years or so later Wounded Knee was crowded. A famous AIM guy had built a circular “museum” just down the hill. Some really bad stories have come out concerning some of the AIM people during the events of ‘73, but one AIM guy is known to have been shot and killed by the Feds (??) at that time, a guy from California, he is buried on the hill just outside the fence.

There was a second more recent grave next to California guy. Judging by the name on the gravestone and the dates of birth and death it was most likely his mom, if so she must have arranged to have herself buried out there next to her son when she died.

Someone had just recently taken a big crap right on her grave. Prob’ly it had been some random drunk the night before but it seemed like an act of petty spite, like witchcraft.

Hey that was someone’s mom’s grave. So I found a piece of cardboard lying around and cleaned that sh$t off, literally. Carried that cardboard down the hill to an old outhouse behind the AIM museum. Three big drunk guys in a car with bloodshot eyes and death in their faces drove up and were looking at the White guy hard. They looked like the sort of people who really would rape and murder one or more naive young White women as had been said about the events of ‘73.

Across the road from the chapel the local elementary school was having a bake sale. Teacher ladies fighting the good fight amid chaos. They told me the AIM guy who built that museum was the biggest drug dealer on the reservation.

So anyways this has been about the sum total of my run ins with Indians over the years. At some point years ago I did run into Dennis Banks, on the tiny Kickapoo Reservation right on the Rio Grande. He told me they needed a teacher where he was (Leech Lake ??) said I should apply. Even if I was free to do so I prob’ly wouldn’t. It ain’t like that would be a free speech situation, I’d doubtless piss em off pretty quick.

Mescalero friend got divorced and his wife got the house. A shame that two people who had done such a great job with their kids should split up but there it was. He lives on a small acreage south of town now. Last time I seen him was right after Trump got elected.

He accused me of voting for Trump, gets a big grin and says he did too. That guy always flew an AIM flag at his house. I figure AIM flags are about like Confederate flags, those that fly em support the general principle but not all the actual details. Anyhow last I heard his daughter was a Social Worker in Albuquerque and she had worked on some local Democrat’s campaign so there’s that.

I did bring my granddaughter to a local powwow when she was a little kid. She got all quiet and whispers to me ”Grampa, why are those men dressed like chickens?” grin Actually she was right; prairie chickens.

Going on four years back (damn, time flies) I was pedaling my bike through Box Elder on my way to visit this Eskimo guy and his family up on the Hi Line when these two Rocky Boys girls ASKED me to take their picture. Like I said at the time, that level of reaction to my mere presence was a bit over the top, even for me grin

I think what had happened was this: The teenager in the back seat was someone’s little brother, they were leaving the casino turning left towards Box Elder. Maybe they had gone there to pick up the brother from work.

If so, they coulda seen me stopped a short time earlier taking a picture of this cool billboard and maybe they were on it.

I sure hope those girls are doing well.

My Dad said we came from one of the Black Forest tribes. The Romans tried to put us on the rez, but we ate them.

The Romans never bothered with the Irish, didn’t have too. See, we was already killing each other.

Yup, I know a guy and his brother in North Dakota who do that exact thing. Both are white skinned, blonde w/blue eyes. They get all the government funded/supplied freebies when they shouldn't, and are proud of it.

If 'race is a social construct', according to certain Leftards/Democraps/Progressives/social marxists, then how come certain people whose ancestors were "on the rolls" get government benefits as a racial group??

I never could figure out how Indians were supposed to be the great harmonious protectors of nature, when for thousands of years, the plains dwellers would run entire herds of bison off fùcking cliffs.

Somehow that was more harmonious with nature than shooting them I guess.

Oh that's a thing of beauty Dillon.

I don't need a native pride hat to be proud to be native, I just am.
For the same reason I don't need a handout is the same reason I don't have native shame for my ancestors misdeeds, I don't ride on their or anyone's coattails.

I take pride in my own accomplishments and my ability to influence others to do the same, that is where and how I come by native pride, but I don't think we will ever come out from that shadow of doubt that seems perpetual.

Been covered as nauseum. There was nothing there worth taking lol. The Norse decided they liked freckled püssy and had their way at leisure with the island. Megan Llewelyn was a good story teller. But that all they are. smile

Strange paradox in Ireland. Everywhere else the Vikings went; England, the Hebrides, Orkneys, Isle of Man, Iceland, they left abundant genetic evidence in terms of the distinctive Scandinavian Y chromosome, passed on by men.

This Y chromosome is almost absent in Ireland although there are Nordic genes in the Irish population.

How could this happen? At times like these ya gotta go with Occam’s Razor ie the simplest explanation the probably true.

Ergo the Vikings in Ireland were a bunch of queers.

Viking women were screwing Irish men.

It’s science Dude, sorry.

A reservation Indian giving postscript:

February of 1984, because I knew it was a thing to do I picked up a tin of pipe tobacco and brung it to a guy named Frank Fools Crow on Pine Ridge while I was giving a guy a ride home. Until I Googled the guy’s name just now other than him being a significant older Traditional guy who had been sequestered away from boarding schools in his youth I wasn’t aware of specifics.

Frank Fools Crow when I met him was a big, barrel-chested, bow-legged guy, I figured he was maybe 80. The internet has him listed as “Clergy” which is prob’ly an apt description. Frank Fools Crow was born around 1891, meaning he was about 93 in 1984.

In his youth he had travelled with Buffalo Bill Cody’s show. I knew he had been chosen in his childhood as a vessel to carry Lakota culture into an uncertain future, I didn’t realize the people teaching him woulda been born in the 1840’s and ‘50’s.

Near as I could tell, that guy had lived his whole life serving his people. So he belongs to the small pantheon of remarkable people I have met including WWII Ace Saburo Sakai and the Dalai Lama

‘Nother Indian-giving postscript…..

Recalling the motorcycle I was on it was prob’ly 1988, I was out at Mescalero doing the directing-traffic thing. That year I had gotten especially friendly with a family camp, joked around a lot, parked my motorcycle there.

When I left I rode over to the Tularosa side of the reservation where just across the rez line was the usual liquor store. In addition to liquor, cases of beer were stacked clear to the ceiling.

So I picked up a cold flat of beer, hadda be at least a case, maybe mor, balanced it on the gas tank and brung it to that family. Told them I had found it laying in the road , it was cold so it had prob’ly fallen out of Wendell Chino’s airplane 🙂 Then I left for real, heading back to stay with friends in Capitan.

Wendell Chino was the Tribal President and a big money guy. During the festivities he had been making low passes over the fairgrounds in his Beechcraft (??) twin engine airplane.

I didn’t realize at the time Mr Chino, for better or worse Tribal President his whole life, was responsible for Ski Apache, The Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort, the first Indian Casino, a thriving timber industry and high dollar guided trophy elk hunts on that 780 sq mile reservation. Relative prosperity and a high standard of living to the tribe, which is prob’ly why their beautiful reservation (and it is) had a vibe night and day different from many.

Anyways, a 600 mile ride home the next day. Stopped at a McDonalds en route in Seminole TX or somewhere and shortly thereafter got sick as a dog from food poisoning. Ended up checking in at a roadside motel for a whole 48 hours before I could continue.

Karma for bringing alcohol onto a reservation.

I'm kind of proud of the fact that my great grand parents had enough of "jolly old England" and apparently England had enough of them to get the hell out and find a spot in America on ground formerly owned by indians to live on. No tribes in my neighborhood. No leftist Brit's either. No Californians or New Yorkers. I guess you could say I live in a pretty good neighborhood simply because my great grandparents didn't fit into their old country.
