Just picked up a Rem 700 ML that is in great condition. Gave it a thorough cleaning and no rust or pitting in the bore. Took it to the range today and put about 15 rounds down range. I see that there are a few different conversions kits for these. Can someone give me some insight on what conversion kit to look at? If I could use large rifle primers, I have a large stockpile of them.

I have a couple off them, my first was mint as you describe yours above. I went to arrowhead rifles and got the bolt nose kit and his 209 breech plug. It turns the 700ml into a sealed action with no blowback (I shoot left handed so that was a must). I shoot the Fury 320gr universal with blackhorn 209, if I do my part it will put 2 in the same hole at 100 yards. For the Large Rifle primer kits you would be looking at his smokeless breech plugs that would also require a bolt nose and firing pin upgrade. Finding someone that is willing to work on the older 700mls is getting fewer and further in between with most builders preferring the centerfire actions. I did send off a 700ml back in the fall to McGowen with a 209 arrowhead plug. I got it back and after break in I am very pleased with the results if you are wanting to go smokeless. The other popular bolt nose kit is badger ridge I dont have any experience with them but they have a goo following.

Thanks. No plans on going smokeless at the moment.

OP, No matter which breech plug option you choose-
Remove the firing pin assy from the bolt body & clean it well & apply lubricant to prevent corrosion.

I converted mine with a Hunter bolt nose kit, prior to it becoming Badger Ridge, and it works great. Wasn't very hard to do. I also converted my Ruger 77/50 with one of their kits, a little more involved but same results.

If it is one of the early rifles with #11 ignition, the easy swap is a bolt nose kit and a 209 breechplug leaving it a .50 caliber. From there it is a wide open field. Many put a heavy .45 barrel on and use premium bullets using the extra metal to insure safety.

Curious as to what loads you guys are using in the converted ML's. I have a Remington Ultimate ML and have had thoughts of converting to 50-70 or similar. Is that legal?
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

I have had one for years and killed a pile of deer with it. I had the Badger ridge bolt nose installed and their breechplug to shoot 209 s for ignition. It is now a sealed breech that is suitable to light Blackhorn 209 powder. the original slamfire carbon steel to percussion cap was a terrible unreliable design that blew gas in your face and into the trigger assembly.

I put a badger ridge on mine for 209’s to light blackhorn. I would definitely recommend it the switch.
When I die I hope I don't start voting democrat.

I ended up getting the Arrowhead kit and got it installed. Will be testing it out in the next week.

You'll like the arrow head kit. I have one and it's the cleanest breach I've ever seen on a muzzle loader.

Levi Reed https://lrcustomsinc.com/ turned my Rem 700 UML with a horrible barrel into an absolute 600 yd tack driver pushing the Parker 300 gr Black Max to 2660 fps with Black Horn 209. I'm talking 1/2 moa groups. Alan
