There’s a new fast food place I’ve discovered. Been there 3-4 times now. Not sure how widespread they are but for under $6 bucks you can get a yummy & unique batter covered corny dog. I can’t link an image as I’m posting from my phone.
Google: K-Town Hotdogs. They’re darn good. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Steve,

in St George, try Smashburger if you haven't . first place I saw one, we had one in Flag for 6 years, went away during Covid (students at NAU went remote)

My fave in St George is Bishops Grill, (sit down breakfast and lunch) handy near Sportsmans Warehouse.

Generally eat there on the way to Parashant or on the way back.

good sandwich, esp. if something you don't get every day.

not sure how often I would eat there if it was in town.

More than MacDonalds for sure.

Not sure I guess. I thought if there was a drive thru window that is fast food?? Enlighten me.

Yet another vote for Culver's. Comprehensive menu from burgers and chicken to pork and fish, plus really good ice cream. Always super clean, with great condiment selection.

I don't get the fascination with In & Out. Nor Five Guys. Both are just average food with high prices. The Habit makes better burgers than either. Love Whattaburger, but none near here. Jersey Mike's have the best subs, but they only serve subs. Popeyes has better chicken than Zaxby's - at least here in Ogden where he Zaxby's has gone downhill from how good they were when they opened.

to me in n out burger is just an old fashioned road side drive in burger, with fresh fries.

they don't cook it until you order it, lot of the places have a glass wall to the kitchen, you see them making your food, not hiding anything. peeling spuds and slicing them then frying them, not a brown bag of frozen.

counter help is polite and well -groomed, and well paid. people in the kitchen are working their butts off.

I would think there will be some B-school papers written soon about major execs that started out at in n out burger.

where they learned about hiring good help, firing bad help, customer service and leadership, identifying a mission, getting good at it, and staying the course.

Seems like those practices could come in handy running a business....

1. I'm baffled when anyone lists Taco Bell as a good fast-food place. Not only is it not actual Mexican food but the meat they use (if it really is meat) seems like it's been pureed into a mush then freeze dried into a powder which they reconstitute by adding hot water. Nasty chit. I blame wasted stoners for them still being in business. If you don't eat whatever you get from Taco Bell within 5 minutes, it becomes a soggy mess that looks like it's trying to dissolve. I'd rather kill a rat in the parking lot and roast it over a fire. And I say this as someone that likes real Mexican food.

2. Chick-fil-a is consistently the most overrated fast-food place in America. Not that it's bad. It's just OK at best. The owner of that company is a well-known conservative and widely considered to be anti-gay. For these reasons a lot of conservative people in this country want to support his business. And that is perfectly fine but, in their zeal, to show support it causes them to greatly overrate the quality of the food. Hell, a Popeyes chicken sandwich curb stomps the chit out of one from Chick-fil-a. And it's not even close.

3. Never understand the Wendy's hate like you can see from some in this very thread. I have never had a bad burger from Wendy's. Of the really big nationwide burger chains I'd say their burgers are easily the best I have tried. We don't have one close by where I live but I'd trade any of the fast-food burger joints we do have like McDonalds, Burger King, Sonic, Hardees, or Jacks for a Wendys in a heartbeat.

4. Five Guys. Overrated, expensive for fast food, and their fries are nasty.

5. Never been to an IN and OUT burger but all the praise for them makes me want to check it out.

Inn N Out is overrated imo. Don’t get me wrong, I like
the double double, but I will take a Carl’s Jr. double western bacon cheese all day over it.

See Culver's mentioned repeatedly, never even heard of them.
So I Googled.

Went to the Franchise part, and found their secret.

Owner/Operators are expected to work full time in the restaurants.
(They allow owning multiples, not sure how that works.)

I very much believe the fall in quality and service in our country is the
the concentration of business ownership amount the wealthiest folks.

50 years ago a couple willing to work could build a restaurant from nothing.
Today you need a half million dollars and will still be toting a note.

When the owner has his name on the building, or is at least on premises,
the business is more than a place to plant extra money to grow.

My wife runs a retail business for a family owned company,
her first boss told her to run it like it was hers. The owners refer to it as her's
when talking to her. She treats it that way, as an extension of herself.
And it shows in how the place functions.

Too many absentee franchise owners don't get managers with that mindset.

In N 0ut opened here about a year ago. Looooooooooooooong lines but we braved them one day. Worst burger I have eaten in a long time, utterly tasteless, fries were typical crinkle fries and served cold. Won't ever eat there again.

Whataburger opened recently......... much prefer over In N Out.

Burgers:
1. 5 Guy's
2. Sonic (green chili cheese burger) and tater tots.
3. Whataburger (also available with roasted green chili.)

Chicken:
Bone in: Popeye's
Tenders: Kane's or Carl Jr's
Nuggets: Chick-fil-A

Pizza: Lil Caesars, Dominoes

Fish: Culvers Cod or Walleye, Champs, local convenience store's brand of fried catfish.

In-n-Out doesn't serve crinkle fries.
