Now, if we want to continue to operate out there on the fringes.... I have successfully fired mags full of .380 ACP through my FEG PA-63 (chambered in 9X18.)

I have burned up quite a bit of old .40 ammo through 10mm guns. Never had a single issue. Not talking about a few magazines. PlusFor a short time I ran a bunch 40 S&W 180 ball practice ammo that was scrapped/pulled by a .gov agency through my 10mm Glock barrel, shooting USPSA matches, since the price was right. Multiple thousands of rounds, no issue.
Bottom line, it works fine. I have a .40 conversion barrel for large frame Glocks, but if I was doing it over, I would not have bothered to spend the money.

That makes a Glock 20 a very versatile firearm. Kind of like a .357 Magnum revolver.

If you get a G21, you can get a 10mm barrel conversion barrel for it. However you cannot get a .45 conversion barrel for a 10mm G20.
So it makes sense to buy a G21, as then you can shoot .45, 10mm and .40 all on the same frame.

They work in most of my guns.
One clear exception was a S&W 1006 I had. Always got a pierced primer hole when I shot 40's through it. No problems with the 10mm though.

A lot of 45 acp brass is short when measured at least a lot of multi reloaded or range brass is. As a result the short brass headspace’s off of the extractor like 40 in 10 mm chamber.
