Does the failure of SVB hold wider implications for the banking system? Will Uncle Sugar dash to the rescue with 'our' money? (If I remember correctly, Unc Sugar pumped a ton of money in WaMu in 1990, then Chase swooped in and profited hugely) Does any of this matter to the long term stock portfolio held by Joe Blow?
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

The actual impact should be mostly contained within its own sector, however the psychological impact could be far-reaching and may have triggered the impending recession.

The underlying problem of SVB, reserves kept in long term bonds that devalued due to increased interest rates, is wide spread in the banking sector. One number I saw mentioned is that 28% of the face value of the reserves in the system has evaporated.
