Why in the world did CZ discontinue the 550 and 527 model of rifles? The new 600 models suck to me. What say y’all?

I have a 527, the only cz I have ever handled. It's a very well built gun and somewhat unique. Was quite surprised when they stopped making them.

I have 2 527’s and 2 550’s. The set triggers are awesome.

No idea what they are thinking. I'm sure there's a financial model that says so but no idea.....

Supposedly the tooling to make those actions was obsolete and they weren’t selling enough to retool. Or so I’ve read.

I’m a big fan of the CZ 527 and 550’s. Given how prices have skyrocketed it seems like there’s still some demand for them and I wonder if it wasn’t a business mistake on CZ’s part.

I'm in total agreement. LOVE the 550s and 527s, wouldn't bring a 600 in the house. The rimfires are still ok.

Simple economics. They are, after all, in the business to make money. I imagine pistols make up the bulk of their business, and they’ve been tweaking that lineup as well, notably (for me anyway) discontinuing the Kadet 2 .22 conversion for the 75 and the 75B Omega Convertible. They’re pretty hot among competition shooters now it seems if YouTube is to be believed. The impression I got when they started down this road was that they wanted to stay compact and flexible so they could adapt to the market easily.

Moral of the story is you can’t count on anything being available forever, so get ‘em while you can.

The 600 Alpha .223 I handled was pretty nice, aside from the polymer guard, but that’s not a deal-killer. The versions for other cartridges are IMO, too heavy. The other models don’t interest me since they dropped the IBS.

I have a 22 Hornet in CZ 527 American that I bought new in 2009...the manual and tags, box, just like new. Only probably 50 rounds down it. I reload 40 gr Sierra and it is a tact driver....2 x 7 scope. Have killed few coyotes & fox with it. Will reach out to 200 yards and only drops an inch or so. Last coyote I killed with it at 80 yards facing me...hit him under the chin and went entire length of his body. With the mild recoil could see him in the scope throw up his head and dropped...never moved. Did not know CZ had dropped the 527 line.

I agree it was a mistake to discontinue the 527s, but I bought a new 600 and I'm loving it!

I was in Cabelas the other day so I've got stories to tell. They had around 10 on the rack and a guy was buying one. The gun expert explained that the gun was a second, probably a blemish in the stock.

Here's the interesting part, he says the Bass Pro has a contract to buy all of CZ's seconds and they sell all of them for CZ. I'm guessing there is some truth in that as Cabelas seems to have them in stock.

Has the recall for the model 600 rifle been completed? I'm not sure when it was issued and know little about it.

When they originally released them the barrels were user changeable like their 22 rifles. Then they found people weren’t that mechanical and could assemble them incorrectly and there was a chance of firing out of proper headspace. So they made them nonuser swapable. Was a cool idea.

I like the 1:7 twist in 223 but the magazine looks too short to take advantage of. I’m a fan of the nitride finish too. I’m not sure if I like the wonky safety but haven’t messed with it enough to really form an opinion.

I’m hoping they bring back the Hornets and offerings with with “American” style wood stocks like the 457 American.

Howa is taking advantage of the situation with the Mini. Takes a bit of lipstick to bring them into the “nice rifle” category, but they are made with steel forgings and are solid. One of mine is now fitted for 527 magazines. I bought four, one 3-shot flush-fit and three 5-shot that hang down. I actually prefer the look with the 5-shot ones over the winged guard assembly on the 527. They fit very snugly in the slot, so I have to conclude the wings were superfluous.

A nice walnut stock would be a plus for the Mini. Brownells used to list one, checkered even, for something over $200, but I don’t see it now.

Maybe if y'all would have quit bitchin' about the "backwards safety" and the "hanging magazine", it would still be a thing.

My 550 fs in 6.5 Swede is a never sell rifle. I see a number of guys post they got rid of theirs because the stocks were too blocky but I like mine. My son likes it even more so its a keeper.
