Cut out the rot and get rid of it then weld in new. The bones still look good.

I'd definitely check the blade pan for cracks and rust.

There's plenty of structural steel to weld a new skin to. Go price a new one, if you need further incentive.

I've re-skinned several of them- - - - -just be sure the gearbox and support structure is solid. Bracing the gearbox mount with thicker plate will dramatically improve the lifespan of the machine. No need to cut out the rot- - - -just scab new metal on top.

Guess I never seen one last long enoug to rust out.
Our “Druncle Larry” usually detonates ours on a guy anchors, survey pins, engine blocks in weeds, stacks of left over bricks

Wonder if I can cut and bolt on I can’t weld worth schit If you melt steel ,you can weld. It would be good enough. Plus give you more practice to get better. I think 1/8 "plate would be thick enough. One of those 1/16 " thick cut off disc on a 4 " grinder will take a lot of the old stuff off fast, but I would not spend a lot of time at it
If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles

I managed thru last yrs bush hog campaign Ive feared impailment if not fixed I'd fix it. Wouldn't take much. Looks like some of the rusted, saggy metal could get impacted by the blades too. Get rid of that stuff. Doesn't have to be purty...

Leave the rot where it is and weld new right over it. Just knock the paint off before you weld. Doesn’t have to be pretty just cover the hole

I have one which is bad, but not as bad as yours. Mine is a Bushhog brand, squeeler to be exact. I have a friend who is going to get some plate and weld it for me. I bought a used John Deere 7' cutter and couldn't believe the weight difference. The john Deere is much heavier. I'll have the 6' Bushhog repaird to pull with another tractor on the ocasion I have help. Good Luck, and take care! Rick

Easy fix. As said above, go price a new one if you need incentive.
