I have mostly shot 140"s from my 7X57 (I did go for some extra panache/snob appeal and had it marked 275 Rigby) and 160's from the 7X57 AI. As my supply of H414 is dwindling I'll be trying some other powders and heavier bullets. I have 150, 160 NP and SGK, 160 NAB and 175 SGK.

I used the 140 gr AB on this oryx via my custom Swede 7x57.

I took a Winchester 70 FWT in 6.5x55. Shot everything except the warthog with it using 156 grain Norma factory ammo.

Humpff...

It has streaky wood and swiggly scratches all over the floorplate, not to mention those mottled colors. smirk

it works well on white tails too!

7 x57 Remington, 700 Classic, 139 grain Hornady IL, WLR, 50.9 grains IMR4350, 0.54 MOA
7 x57 Remington, 700 Classic, 140 grain Partition, 9 ½, 49.5 grains IMR4350, 0.74 MOA
7x57 Remington 700 Mountain, 120 grain Barnes TTSX, 9 ½, 45.5 grains Varget, 0.66 MOA (devastating on deer)

I prefer classic.

I have an unexpected load for 4 - 7x57 rifles.

139 Hornady - 37gr I3031 - no barn burner but they group in old and new rifles.

Need to try some heavy's

I seem to recall Finn Aagaard saying his father wearing out the barrel of a 7x57 on game, not targets. Made an impression on me.

I too have had excellent results with IMR-3031 with bullets from 140 to 175 in my 7x57. When a 7x57 will not group a certain bullet acceptably, try 3031 somewhere in the 40 grain range and you will be surprised. Thanks again Seafire for sharing the info!

This has made the trip across the pond. Built on a Sako L61R action in 7X57 AI. The rib is part of the octagon barrel not a separate piece. At the time I went I used Speer 160 grain Grand Slams. They worked perfectly on plains game from Bush Pigs to Waterbuck and Kudu.https://i.postimg.cc/c1BgrTJR/IMG-1297.jpg[/img]

I used this to cull a Giraffe that had been caught in a wire snare. You could see the maggots in the wound. He was thin and gaunt and suffering. It took a couple of shots but we ended his suffering.

Here's some action from my spring bear hunt here in Canada. One shot with the old 7x57 with 173gr S&B ammo. At 2370 fps. 100 yards, bear dropped at the shot but got back up and made it 20 yards, letting out a death moan. Bear squared 5'9", not my biggest but a good example of color phased black bear. Double lung. Bullet exited. No complaints from the 7x57.

That is a beautiful bear and the rifle is exquisite! Doesn't it feel lively without being encumbered with a scope?
