In my 700 classic 35 Whelen, 250’s at 2500 or 225’s at 2650 seemed like the sweet spot. Quite a bit of power with moderate recoil in a fairly light package. Much more would have been a bit much for me. It seems that once I hit my personal recoil tolerance, the discomfort level rises quickly with slight increases in velocity.
