So for many years, I drank blended Scotch and was quite happy with it. Couldn't "get" the fascination with single malts.
And then I bought a bottle of Glenmorangie 10-yr. Oh, my.
Then I bought Glenmorangie 12. Oh, MY!
I was wrong.
It's right near $60 a bottle here, but it's worth it.

I drink Glenlivet single malt. It is so smooth that I can't tell the difference between 8 years and 15 years.
Wind in my hair, Sun on my face, I gazed at the wide open spaces, And I was at home.

A nice, almost sweet highland whiskey, and a perfectly good first step into single malts. You might like to look up the Scotch whiskey regions, to get an idea of what the world of single Malt Scotch looks like. It's a loose (very loose!) way to get an overview.

Try the 14 or 15 year dingle malt of your choice on special occasions.
Also Costco occasionally has some 17-19 year Speyside single malts at a very reasonable price.

No Costco booze in Utah.
I am somewhat familiar with the regions of Scotch: Highlands, Speyside, Lowlands, Campbeltown, Islay and Islands. I have tried an Islay or two and was deeply impressed with the smoky peatiness. Highlands seems to be at the other end of the scale.
A glass of Scotch is my Sunday drink. A bottle lasts me a few weeks.

Where do they bury the bodies of those killed for not smoking expensive cigars while drinking single malt Scotch?

A trick I use is that if I have guests over the first two I pour are 12-year-old Glenmorangie, then straight to the Bar Scotch since your taste buds won't recognize the difference anymore. KB

Try some Glenfarclas. Especially the 25 yo, but any of it is good.

Thanks for the suggestions, but with Utah's 46% "sin tax" I'm afraid that some of your favorites would end up being $100 -- a glass.

Rocky,
Gotta drive to Vegas to drop my wife off for a trip to Scotland in late April. While she will be bringing some back, we got dibs on that haul. I'll be stopping by Costco there. I'll then be going up to Park City about a week later. I can pick you up something. Can also stop by Lee's in Mesquite. They have a real selection there.
Let me know.
