Building some ultralight rifles. Want under 16 oz., shots to 300 max, no turret twisting. Typically run Leupold fixed powers but they seem to have fallen out of favor here, what else is out there you recommend.

You are not much of a man if you are going to let others here dictate what you use. I use the hell out of Burris FFII 3-9x40 with the ballistic plex reticle, because it simply works. I'm not going to say that's what you should get though. 300 yards is not a very far shot. I've had issues with Leupold and don't trust them for the most part, but I was out yesterday with a rifle wearing a Leupold. It's an older Vari-X IIc 3-9X40 Tactical that I trust for right now. If you haven't had any problems with Leupold, keep using them.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

There are not a ton of great options currently available under 16 oz.
Trijicon accupoint 3-9 is worth a look.

Good luck. I've recently been looking for a good, lightweight, low power variable to put on a lever gun and there ain't any. Even Leupold fuucked up their 1-4x20 and 1.5-5x20 with CDS turrets and stupid ass reticles unsuited for close range hunting in dark woods. Everything else is too big and/or heavy with giant eye bells, huge power rings, goofy ass throw levers, 30mm tubes, turrets the size of an Aztec burial mound and/or reticles that look like a goddam Christmas tree. Came to the conclusion I'm going to have to buy used because NOBODY makes a good HUNTING scope for a lever gun anymore.

I have been using Leupold 6x36 on my hunting rifles for decades and have not had one let me down yet. For what you want I don't know of anything better than those. drover
223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

In whatever realm one may delve you will usually find Negative Ninnies overwhelmed with their own vast inferiority complexes attempting to fit into normality by self-aggrandizing. Democrats in drag disguise but with vast imaginations or abilities to mimic and/or magnify negativities others have expressed. Sometimes I wonder if the Leupold haters are of such ilk. I'd estimate that I have shot thousands of rounds under Leupolds through relatively stout recoiling guns, a lightweight, short barreled Ithaca 37 shooting slugs and magnum turkey loads, single shot 30-284 loaded to the max, then a Kimber Montana 300WSM. I saw a 12ga shotgun dropped 12 - 14 ft from a tree stand. It landed on the M8 2Xscope. When later tested the slugs were averaging 1" high and 1" to the right at 70 yards. I now have that scope. It's mounted on my 20ga TC Turkey. In 2004 I had a Leupold fail but given their history with me I'm sold on the brand.
BE STRONG IN THE LORD, AND IN HIS MIGHTY POWER. ~ Ephesians 6:10

Since you like fixed powers, the S&B 6x42 is a solid scope that is ~16 oz.

Whats wrong with a Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40? I certainly would not let the opinion of some of the "keyboard experts" on this site influence my decision ....Hb

have you considered a low power fixed power scope? I hunted with a 2 3/x Redfield on my Rem 660 for a lot of years and it never failed me. They don't have that big bell out front! Mine was a widfield and rode low on the rifle. used a fixed 4x on my 7mm mag but think it would need higher mounts. Yet that 4x never let me down either!
