Does anyone have experience with PacNor's barrel quality post-fire. Of course, they were great before and I assume that continues to be true, but asking in an abundance of caution. TIA

Don't know why they would rebuild to make a lesser quality barrel. I'll be placing a prefit order shortly and have zero hesitation

My post fire 204 barrel is supurb.

I have no issues with my post fire 25/222 barrel. Shoots great.

They rebarreled a Ruger No 1 for me post fire and did a fantastic job.

I've still got a montana 8400 in 270 wsm that I was about to send to them for a rebarrel to 6.5 4s before the fire. Since then I've just went with other rifles in 6.5 prc. If they are good to go maybe I'll send the 270 wsm in for a 7 wsm 8 twist.

I have an 8400 already in 7 wsm and I really like it so maybe I need another. Although I love the way my 300 wsms kill with 215 hybrids. My hunting partner talked me out of my montana in 300 wsm and I've been missing it. But I could find another factory montana 300 some day so I don't need to go custom tube to get back there. The factory twist 300 is enough for the 215s.

I'm not a 270 fan but maybe I should just see how the donor shoots and go from there. The last mintana 270 wsm I picked up for a donor was a 1/2 moa gun. A friend saw it driving tacs at the range and rescued it from rebarreling. That's why I haven't dared to shoot this donor.

Like a sore pecker they are hard to beat..... they did a 223ai on a 700 action for me last year that shoots great.... have a Kimber Montana there now getting a 7 twist, 3 groove 223ai barrel right now..... about 2 years ago I also ordered a Llija and sent it to Shaen to build a faux 223 mountain rifle that Dude270 has now and he did a great job as well.... just an extra shipment going that route but Shaen is super backed up right now.

I like the one stop shopping and for a hunting rifle I think they do a great job.

More often than not I would expect a smidge better depending on the caliber twist you select. I purchased a 6mm 7.5 twist drop in barrel chambered in 6mm ARC. What can I say other than very pleased. Very accurate & easy clean up.


They had lost a considerable number of buttons used in rifling the barrel. I am of the opinion that most if not all of the updated buttons are producing a improved rifling configuration that is generally easier to clean up. If you get them on the phone I expect they can steer you in a favorable direction.

When I spoke to Stan Taylor at Douglas several years ago, IIRC, he regularly ground new buttons for new batches of barrel steel. Apparently, the "spring back" after pushing the button through the bore would vary from batch to batch of steel. Not saying all buttons for all batches. But got the impression it was fairly common to need to grind new buttons when they got a new heat of steel...
