Agreed RAS! Those are a favorite of mine. Nostalgia for sure involved and I’d add those early ones are incredible shooters. Don’t see many in my area.

Only problem I have with them is finding them in internet searches. Savage 110 brings up all the newer ones. Add "old" or "vintage" and sometimes it hits.

The upper part of the stock has been filed down hasn't it?

Serial puts it as a 1958 production.

A Winchester Pre 64 M70 06 featherweight a much more enjoyable gun to shoot than a 110.

Don't know exactly why that is, but it is...

What makes the Savage 110 series a very important rifle?

Winchester 70s have been made since the mid-1930s, so isn't that a little longer run than the Savage 110's?

There was a gap in production between the close of the CT operation and the opening of the SC operation, but the Model 70s were never discontinued. I don't know if there was a gap while moving production to Portugal.

Edit - Savage has never figured out how to make the 110 series attractive, even after Marlin showed them how it could be done with the X guns.
