Where in WA? My wife and I are wanting to get a puppy for our children. We live on acreage and someone is always home, so we think it might be manageable.
I'm in Selah, but often drive or have people driving, to the Peninsula.
If you pick up where I leave off, it's MORE than manageable. They're ready to acclimate and start out well behaved and in the habit of learning from their human. It really works, great program to get a kid to pick up too.
Cute Puppy Video! Demo video (if you’ve been following along) on transitioning the audibles from just emotion to actual command words… Back, Sit, and Food. They don’t even realize they’re learning!
I’m using what they know (food dish manners training) to train a new concept (a praise word that is NOT a release.) Really makes them listen specifically! They’re not just listening for an emotion. Or for words (talking to the camera is a helpful tool too!) Instead, they’re listening for the specific word “FOOD!”
I’m teaching them the word “Good” in a smooth happy pleased tone, and incorporating it with petting and individual attention and special focus, but then if they assume it’s a release, they immediately get the teakettle flip! They get it quickly! It’s what they hear when they’re doing it right, but they’re not supposed to go to the next thing yet. Perfect scenario to teach!
Moved the puppies to the "Big Kid Kennel" yesterday morning. They settled in well. I practiced gate manners ONCE, had a few teakettles then walked over today and.....
Here’s from today… transitioning to sit and wait as I move away from them.
I didn’t realize the chocolate boy was behind me sitting dutifully until I felt him there! I was holding up a tray full of sloshing slurried food. (That’s typically why I wear crocs and do lots of this with my toes, my hands are often full.)
It's funny, I didn't even realize in this video, one puppy was way behind me, back at the gate, sitting and waiting, doing his duty like the rest, didn't break until released even though he had a free open shot to the dish... and I didn't even notice as I was filming these 9!
Several inquiries going, but still 4 boys available. 1 black 3 chocolate.
Still looking for a scholarship/homeschool project pup, or service dog recipient. Feel free to nominate someone!
I had to get the Iconic RainShadow Labradors photo from this litter too!
They’re sitting there… because I told them to!
They’ve been doing versions of this since 4 weeks, nice and neat and as long as I want them to like this for over a week, but this pic is 7 weeks and 4 days.
Second (Last) Immunization today, second leash walk, first bath... They're getting it! A couple are still acting a little young for leash, as they're still very bonded to the littermates, but getting them out of eye/earshot tunes them in and they're getting it.
Never have seen a breeder work with a litter of pups like Steve does.
And a bump

Thank you, guys. It's got an element of reward to it. I love to see the really little pups 'get it' and understand... proves my point, babies can be taught to act decently.
The pic above with the pack and my 4yo daughter lying down is another part of the reward I get to see. Red collar, in the middle of the pack, is one of my pups. I was boarding him for a couple days. He's from a home where he learns commands, but the people are not taking leadership. But he's STILL sharp! He's still a good dog, even though they don't make him submit (but more often the opposite.) It WORKS! Teaching Puppies to Submit and LISTEN really, really works!
